Dell Explores Next Era of Human-Machine Partnerships

One of the information technological topics/advancements that companies and brands are talking about right now and in the near coming future, is Internet of Things (IoT). I took a strong interest in this area ever since my overseas trip to Canon EXPO Shanghai conference in 2016 and learning first hand on IoT from a company’s perspective, as well as visiting Greenwave Systems during CommunicAsia 2016 and CommunicAsia 2017.

Most recently in 2017, I also attended The Future Workplace with Dell and a seminar on F1 Technology and The Impact on Healthcare, adding on to my reading and understanding on the subject matter IoT. Although I am not a subject expert, I do have a keen interest on how IoT is going to impact and affect how we humans use and consume technology in the future. The future of IoT can help us live and work better, it can also affect us with the possibility of replacing our jobs.

What is the next era of Human-Machine partnerships? How is it going to be like? Are you afraid or are you excited? Will your job still be there in the next 5 to 10 years or will it be replaced by technology and machines? Last but not least, are you ready for IoT to be even more integrated in your work and home in the coming near future (IMHO, it might be as early as 5-10 years away) ?

Dell has partnered with the Institute for the Future (IFTF) and 20 global experts to study the changing relationship between people and technology and how the relationship will manifest itself in society, business and work over the next decade. Dell is sharing the results today from the report titled ‘The next era of human machine partnerships.’

While I am reading up on the reports, their views and analysis, I am also sharing key information and links here for the readers, from the press release below:

Dell Technologies commissioned the study to help companies navigate an uncertain world and prepare for the future. Today, digital disruption is ruthlessly redrawing industries. For the first time in modern history, global leaders can’t predict how their industry will fare further down the line. According to Dell’s Digital Transformation Index,61% of APJ business leaders have experienced significant disruption to their industries as a result of digital technologies. And more than half of businesses believe there’s a possibility their company will become obsolete within the next three to five years.

The report forecasts that emerging technologies, supported by massive advancements in software, big data and processing power, will reshape lives. Society will enter a new phase in its relationship with machines, which will be characterized by:

  • Even greater efficiency and possibility than ever before, helping humans transcend our limitations
  • Humans as “digital conductors” in which technology will work as an extension of people, helping to better direct and manage daily activities
  • Work chasing people, in which by using advanced data-driven matchmaking technologies, organizations can find and employ talent from across the world
  • People learning “in the moment,” as the pace of change will be so rapid that new industries will be created and new skills will be required to survive

Other report highlights include:

  • In 2030 humans’ reliance on technology will evolve into a true partnership with humans, bringing skills such as creativity, passion and an entrepreneurial mindset. This will align with the machines’ ability to bring speed, automation and efficiencies, and the resulting productivity will allow for new opportunities within industries and roles.
  • By 2030 personalized, integrated artificial intelligence (AI) assistants will go well beyond what assistants can do now. They’ll take care of us in predictive and automated ways.
  • Technology won’t necessarily replace workers, but the process of finding work will change. Work will cease to be a place but a series of tasks. Machine learning technologies will make individuals’ skills and competencies searchable, and organizations will pursue the best talent for discrete tasks.
  • An estimated 85 percent of jobs in 2030 haven’t been invented yet. The pace of change will be so rapid that people will learn “in-the-moment” using new technologies such as augmented reality and virtual reality. The ability to gain new knowledge will be more valuable than the knowledge itself.

Personal Thoughts and Views

No matter how we want to look at IoT, we cannot avoid it, even if some of you don’t want to look at it or ignore it. The future of IoT is going to impact us in both good and bad ways. Like the Scout’s motto, “Be Prepared”, we have to be prepared, for the upcoming changes, to change, adapt, innovate, learn and re-learn, adopt, move on and grow together with IoT. If not, you might become obsolete and be left behind.

This would allow Logitech to be in an even stronger position in the gaming and eSports industry.

L?ogitech will purchase ASTRO for $85 million in cash, and the acquisition is expected to close in early August. In FY 2018, we expect the acquisition of ASTRO to add approximately two points of growth to the to?p line, and to be slightly dilutive to the bottom line in the first year, as we integrate the business and invest to expand ASTRO internationally.

Double Rainbow spotted on 8th July 2017

A rainbow, a beautiful sight on Earth, one of the many wonders by our Mother Nature. I was able to spot rainbow a number of times over the years at different locations in Singapore, it’s always a blessing to be able to see a rainbow.

A double rainbow, is much harder to spot and I haven’t personally spot a double rainbow since the year 2012, check out my previous post here when I shared about my double rainbow story!

On 8th July 2017, I was at the Marina Bay area, on the Esplanade side, photographing National Day Parade (NDP) 2017 rehearsal, this was the National Education 2 (NE2) show. While photographing the pre-parade performances around the Marina Bay, a rainbow appeared above and behind the skyline of Marina Bay Sands! The sight was really gorgeous! A lot of the visitors present around Marina Bay were probably photographing away the view of the rainbow!

As the time quickly progressed, a faint second rainbow appeared at the side of the main rainbow! Finally, I managed to spot a double rainbow again! I quickly turned my attention to the double rainbow, photographing and capturing this wonderful image down on my cameras and my memories. This photograph, was a perfect theme for my number 5,000th post on Instagram, a personal milestone for me, a perfect fit with this double rainbow!

It’s not easy at all to spot a double rainbow and this is a blessing for me, considering the difficult and tough times for my photography business. I am glad that I managed to capture this with the Huawei P10 Plus, a smartphone that I am reviewing currently!

OPPO launched flagship model R11 smartphone

OPPO, a leading global camera phone brand, recently launched the OPPO R11, its flagship model smartphone. The OPPO R11 smartphone is packed with the world’s first 20MP front and 20MP + 16MP rear dual cameras and that is something that caught my attention.

 

At the recent OPPO R11 launch event, I had a short time to hold, feel and touch the latest OPPO flagship smartphone. My initial impression was on that weight of the R11, it was very lightweight and easy to carry. The OPPO R11 ergonomic design and slim feature got my attention too! The screen resolution is FHD, the quality and colours are sharp and good.

Being a photographer and avid mobile phone photography person, the smartphone camera always get my most attention and time (of the limited time at the event to test the smartphone) during any smartphone launch event. During the launch event, I took snapshots of the surroundings and landscapes using the OPPO R11, viewed it from the smartphone, I looked at them and think to myself, it’s pretty good.

At the OPPO R11 launch event, there were portraits shot with the OPPO R11, printed and mounted on frames for us to view the quality of portraits shot with the OPPO R11. The photos looked impressive, coming from a smartphone camera. I hope to share more on this if there is an opportunity to review the OPPO R11 smartphone in the future.

Looking back at H1 2017

Time flies so fast sometimes, today marks the start of the second half of year 2017. Exactly a year ago, I also wrote something similar, with the title “Looking back at H1 2016” and there were so much anguish, hurt and disappointment at that point in time. I was down and stuck in the bottom of a rut, recovering and slowly getting myself out of all the things that happened to me.

It had not been easy at all, it was a very difficult period for me, I learnt a lot of life lessons and lessons taught by the society and economy. Thus, my route to recovery wasn’t as fast as I would like it to be. Taking small steps at a time to get myself back on track, I met with the loss of extended family members and close friends. I got a little bit shaken and deviated off slightly on my recovery journey.

Today, as I looked back on the first half of 2017, there wasn’t so much of anguish, hurt and disappointment. Instead, it’s a physically and emotionally tiring journey since I decided to start my own small business in photography services, a journey that maybe 80% or 90% of the friends/people around you that will not step in, whether to start a small business or enter into the photography business industry.

Being a one person business owner / photographer / story teller/ accountant/ administrative / marketing / social media / public relations, there are times whereby no words can further describe everything that you have to carry on the shoulders. Basically, I have to do everything myself until the business is stable.

Moreover, with the amount of disruptions and technological changes to our living and economy, things are constantly changing, sometimes too fast and too furious. On the other hand, changes and disruptions are incoming in the months and years ahead. Marketing directions change, styles and engagements change.

Over the past 6 months of year 2017, it had been a journey of building up the foundations and processes. Thus these affect earning revenue, not to mention how tough and challenging the current economic climate is and in the near future. Even though, the business is still in its infancy stage, I am trying my best to get it up and flying high.

Partnerships and collaborations, are two areas that I am looking at for the future, in this modern world of disruptions and changes, businesses need to help out each other more than ever before. Although not all businesses may see it this way, due to competition or products/services similarity, this would be helpful and ideal for different businesses to collaborate and partnership together in handling projects, business deals. This is the real Win-Win situation for all, helping each other to grow and expand their businesses and networks.

During the past 6 months, while there weren’t anger, anguish or disappointment that clouded me in H1 of 2016, this period had been at times very exhausting and stressful because I am running a one person small business. I am grateful for the help and support some of my friends gave me, from accounting/book keeping advice, business operations to networking.

I am also more appreciative of the surroundings, from family, partnerships, collaborations and friendships. I may not have the wealth and money, I always tell myself and remind myself to be down to earth, be humble and appreciative of the family, relatives and friends (only those that deserve your love, friendship and appreciation) around you. The loss of two relatives from my extended family in the past 8 months shaped me up most recently.

Life is precious, time is limited, treasure your loved ones. As the saying goes, YOLO ~ You Only Live Once, therefore, giving it all out and striving ahead. Whether I succeed or fail, the very least is that I have taken the first step since January 2017 where many many are afraid and will not even take the first step.

The first half of 2017 is now over, the second half of 2017 starts now. My journey is still a very very steep mountain to climb. Taking step by step, even if the future remains uncertain on all fronts, I must still continue moving forward, learning new knowledge and skills, gaining more experiences.

During a recent chat with my friend, she gave me this quote:

“Keep Calm and Keep Shooting”

Indeed very true and this brought me back to where I started off this year, why and what I wanted to start this journey.

The Jaybird family of wireless sports buds, I first knew about them when I first tested and reviewed the Jaybird Freedom wireless buds a few months back. Once I put it on, did a review on it, my view was that Jaybird family had excellent wireless sports buds, in both aesthetic design and excellent sound quality system.

When the Jaybird X3 wireless sports headphones arrived in Singapore, I had an opportunity to review them and I was excited since I reviewed the Jaybird Freedom wireless buds!

Upon opening up the Jaybird X3 wireless headphones, I spotted something different in their packaging. The silicone ear fins were already attached nicely inside the box, helping users who might be confused initially on how to attach the silicone ear fins properly onto the Jaybird wireless buds!

First and foremost, let me share my thoughts and views on the aesthetics of the Jaybird X3 wireless sports headphones before sharing on the sound quality and standards of the Jaybird X3 wireless headphones.

Tough and durable material

When I opened up the Jaybird X3 box and took out the earphones, I had a feel of the material and its built quality. It’s made of tough and durable (high quality plastic) material that can withstand the rugged outdoor conditions and handling lots of sweat during intensive exercise, thanks to the hydrophobic nano coating.

Silicone ear fins

In my personal humble opinion, the silicone ear fins are another feature that makes the Jaybird X3 wireless earphones unique. For a start, users might take some time before they get used to the design and fit inside the ear. You can choose to wear your Jaybird Freedom over-ear sport-fit with fins or over-ear sport-fit without fins or under-ear with fins or under-ear without fins. It’s your personal choice whether you want to have the ear-fins or without ear-fins. There are 4 different ear fins sizes (XS, S, M, L) inside the package and they fit in nicely for sporty/outdoors lifestyle e.g. running, biking, trekking.

Silicone ear tips and Comply ear tips

There are 2 types of ear tips, they come in 3 different sizes for each type of ear tips, to suit your needs and requirements.

Cable

The length of the Jaybird X3 wireless earphones cable is pretty good in my opinion, not too long in length if not it would dangle down and get caught on to other objects. There are cord clips available to shorten the cable behind the neck, you can adjust the length to your liking and preference. Jaybird also gives customers another additional accessory option, a shirt clip is inside the package, that allows the user to attach the cable to their shirt, ideal when going for sports/outdoor activities.

Comfort, Fitting and Balance

The micro-size and secure fit design of the Jaybird X3 make this wireless buds a well balanced, lightweight and tight (yet comfortable) fitting earphones for the avid sports or outdoor adventure user. Users do not need to worry too much on the Jaybird X3 dropping out from the ears or feeling imbalanced because these 2 factors had been taken care of in this Jaybird X3 design.

Sound

Finally, the segment on the sound quality of the Jaybird X3 wireless sports earphones. The design and aesthetics of the Jaybird X3 are really good, well thought out, planned and designed. The next key factor for any earphones review will be on the sound quality.

The pair of Jaybird X3 have enhanced 6mm speaker drivers, giving users a larger sound that can be felt through stronger and sharper bass levels. Some might like it strong and enhanced, some users might not, it’s a personal preference. The treble produced by the Jaybird X3 is clear and strong. Do take note that the Jaybird X3 wireless buds snug into your ears more closely and firmer, thus the user might feel a bit more “overwhelmed” due to the enhanced and more powerful 6mm speaker drivers. Based on your own listening preferences, you can make adjustments on the MySound App, tune it to your own liking and preference.

AXON Predict by Greenwave Systems @ CommunicAsia 2017

In my own personal technology writing adventures covering and writing in the field of Internet of Things (IoT), this particular maiden journey started in 2016, I was introduced to Greenwave Systems, the global managed services and Internet of Things (IoT) software leader, thanks to my friend Wee Wu of Neo Dimension who invited me to visit Greenwave Systems at CommunicAsia 2016 in Singapore.

It was an eye opener to know more about IoT software systems and how they had already started coming into our daily life without us realising it at times.

I shared about my IoT learning experiences to Greenwave Systems at CommunicAsia 2016 in this article that I wrote in June 2016, after my visit and listening to Jim Hunter sharing and demonstration of the AXON Platform. Greenwave Systems was back for CommunicAsia 2017 and it was an honour to be invited back again to visit Greenwave Systems at CommunicAsia! I had the opportunity to write and continue my sharing on Greenwave Systems since the article coverage I wrote in 2016. Arriving at Greenwave Systems seminar room, it was great to meet Jim Hunter again, he’s the Chief Scientist and Technology Evangelist of Greenwave Systems. Jim gave me a run through with a detailed and interesting presentation on the AXON Platform and AXON Predict.

AXON Platform – B2C

Listening and watching Jim’s presentation AXON Platform, it was a very good refresher for me. I saw the demonstration of how the AXON Platform works during my visit to Greenwave Systems at CommunicAsia 2016. Therefore, I would not be writing too much in detail here because most of the references and notes were written inside my 2016 article coverage.

While I was listening to the presentation and watching the demonstration of the AXON Platform, I am also thinking about how smart and connected the various types of devices that we might have in our internet/technology connected home using the smartphone app, AXON Platform and using the common language of the AXON Platform, getting the non related techological devices to “talk, connect and work with each other”. I saw security alarms, security monitor cameras, bluetooth speakers, lighting systems, in action, using the AXON Platform to give instructions to them for it to be carried out, thus making the home smart and connected.

I was also thinking of which type of white goods (kitchen appliances) would be suitable to be connected and working with the AXON Platform whereby the home owner can give instructions to the white goods and get them ready when they reach their home. Some of the white goods could be coffee machine, electric kettle, microwave oven (if the home owner place the food inside before they leave the home).

The home of the future is moving towards a technologically smart and connected home and I feel AXON Platform can be the crucial element that brings both technology, products and consumers together in a home.

AXON Predict – B2B

Earlier, you have read on how the AXON Platform makes a difference and impact to the end consumer at home. Now, I am going to share on how AXON Platform extends into the other industries, on a Business to Business (B2B) level.

Greenwave Systems recently acquired Predixion Software, a data analytics company in February 2017. This would allow Greenwave Systems to offer real-time visual edge analytics solution called AXON Predict. This Greenwave Systems AXON Predict performs analytics “at” the edge, giving business owners a new dimension and arena to work with and on. With this level of advanced analytics, intelligence and information to the machines and sensors on every step of the network, the companies adopting the AXON Predict platform is able to take appopriate real-time action at the source of the input. Companies don’t have to wait for the information and intelligence to be pushed to the cloud for processing, saving up precious time and lowering asset management costs.

With AXON Predict working totgether within the Internet of Things (IoT), different businesses such as shipping/logistics industry, farming and windmill farms, are examples of companies using the power and technology of AXON Predict for their daily business operations. With AXON Platfrom and AXON Predict, we can see where and how IoT is shaping, changing and impacting businesses and consumers. The world of IoT is very big and getting even bigger down the road in the next few years. How fast and how much have businesses (and also end consumers) adapt and adopt changes, innovations and disruptions through the IoT world?

IoT, Big Data, Analytics, AR, VR, MR – Which of them is/are the next revolution?

On this segment, it’s more of my personal thoughts and views of IoT after visiting Greenwave Systems at CommunicAsia 2017, recapping on AXON Platform and learning about their AXON Predict.

My maiden entry into the world of IoT began in May 2016, I wrote a short article here on my this site, it started from my visit to Canon EXPO 2016 Shanghai. That was followed by visiting Greenwave Systems in June 2016 during CommunicAsia 2016.

During this period of time from 2016 to 2017 (at the point of time when this article was written) when I was just touching the tip of the iceberg of this huge IoT world, I also saw the world of AR, VR and MR. I also attended a presentation and panel discussion on “F1 Technology and the Impact on Healthcare”.The revolution and evolution of technology is riding and coming faster to you than you can imagine.

Internet of Things, connecting people, connecting technology, connecting eco-systems between people, devices and technology. Is the Internet of Things a whole new world out there or is it a world growing more connected? 

1 year later, I am continuing to learn, experience, write and share on the world of IoT. Seth Godin recently wrote an article (dated 12th June 2017) about accelerating revolutions where he spoke on IoT, revolutions are accelerating, the impacts, the pace and changes to culture and lifestyle with technology.

We’re living right now in the connection revolution, one powered by the internet, in which people connect to people, computers connect to computers and our culture changes ever faster, daily.

The World Economic Forum recently published an article on 14th June 2017, titled “The Fourth Industrial Revolution is about empowering people, not the rise of the machines

The world of IoT is already upon us, whether we like it or not, it will help us, it will also affect us, in work, in our daily life. The growth of IoT will only grow and expand even faster.

In my humble personal opinion, views and thoughts, I see the next revolution of IoT in the areas of data – huge raw data, information and intelligence, followed by the data analytics, through our various cloud networks (storage, processing, analytics) and 5G telecommunication mobile networks.

After learning about AXON Predict during CommunicAsia 2017, my view is that they are already ahead of the current IoT trends and revolution. Although AXON Predict is currently more suitable for businesses and industries (B2B level), I am thinking whether it could reach the end consumer level? Would there be a day when the end consumer is also able to tap on the technological platform of AXON Predict?

The IoT world, the revolution, the changes, disruption, we can change, adapt and adopt, embrace and grow with IoT helping us to lead a better life and doing our work more efficiently and effectively.
