Celebrating 10 years right here

In January 2018, I celebrated another milestone that didn’t cross my mind, this personal website/blog is 10 years old, having being founded and started in January 2008. This 10 years milestone completely slipped my mind until fellow photographer Joseph Goh congratulated me on LinkedIN, I login and checked and I read “Celebrating 10 years at www.tangenghui.com”.

It was like déjà vu, a bit like Star Wars: The Force Awakens (almost)! This dawned upon me that I had been writing over a period of 10 years, it was just like the blink of an eye, when I first started writing on my personal website/blog in January 2008. Looking back and reflecting on my past 10 years here, while I am celebrating my personal milestone, my personal website/blog is the less well-known websites/blogs that I currently manage. On the other hand, a lot of my most in-depth personal thoughts, views, feelings and emotions were penned down and published here.

This personal website/blog of mine is not a glamourous nor colourful or flamboyant website. It’s all about personal growth, personal development, entrepreneurship, business, finance, social media, information technology news, products and devices announcements/updates, social causes, sports science and training.

What’s next for the year ahead in 2018? I always set a personal goal to improve on my level and quality of content/topics published here inside my personal website/blog. I am going to make some changes (some subtle, some might be distinct) reflecting the growth and maturity in my writing over the past 10 years.

Celebrating 10 years right here, striving forward and marking my timeline ahead in the near future for my next milestone.

To all my readers and supporters over the past 10 years, I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart, for faithfully reading and supporting a “boring” personal blog/website.

Another Year Older (Again) in 2018

Entering into the 10th day of the month of January, it’s the time again for me, to add another digit to an existing number, another year older (again) in the year 2018.

As I aged, matured and mellowed over the decades, birthday is a quiet affair, sometimes alone, sometimes with friends, no fanciful meals, no glamourous photos shared on social media platforms, group photos of birthday gatherings were like a thing of the past since 5 to 10 years back? I don’t even know to be honest, sometimes, the pace of life and changes were so fast and furious that we lost track of our time.

Today, as I grow a year older (again) in 2018, I had a great lunch treat by my primary school friend Wendy, over a hot bowl of Hakata Ikkousha Tonkotsu Ramen, thereafter, we had kopi-o at Ya-Kun. Chatting with old friends is priceless as we aged into the middle stages of our life.

Since my birthdays are usually quiet and low key, I don’t usually get birthday gifts, however, today I received a gift it’s all about Singapore, Heritage, History and Culture. This special package is also a Christmas gift 2017, New Year 2018 gift, a 3-in-1 gift package!

No matter what type of gift it is, I really appreciate this gift from the social media folks, Faiz, Shaun and Nicholas. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart!

I set a goal that I wanted to get a book on my birthday today. I wanted to buy a particular book today since it’s a milestone day for me. I went to Kinokuniya Bugis and it was out of stock, I was determined to buy it today and I went Kinokuniya Orchard and I managed to buy it!

A new book – The little book of Ikigai : The essential Japanese way to finding your purpose in life. This is going to be a significant moment, one of my goals for year 2018, finding my purpose, finding my direction, seeking a balance in the force, on this day on my birthday in 2018, through this little book of Ikigai.

Adding another year (again) in 2018, I am thankful, grateful, humbled and blessed, for everything that I have in life at this juncture in time. It’s not perfect, it’s not that bad either.

Thank you to all my family, relatives and friends that stood by me, encouraged, supported me, lifted me up and pushed me from behind as I strive towards my goals.

To some of “you people”, you know who you are, I am leaving you behind and away from my life forever if I am able to.

Going to work even harder, smarter and more strategically in the year 2018! Onward!

Indonesian talent wins Singtel Group’s “The 5-Min Video Challenge”

The Singtel Group organised “The 5-Min Video Challenge”, celebrating filmmaking talent in Asia as well as a content push by the Singtel Group. The theme for this year 2017 is “Connecting Lives”. The 5-Min Video Challenge attracted quite a number of videos submissions from Australia, Gabon, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. There were a number of different genres from comedy, romance, drama and life stories from the videos submissions.

For each respective country, two finalists from each of the six countries were chosen by lcoal judges to compete in the regional finals. Thereafter, there was a regional judging panel that chose the Grand Winner and runner-up.

On 22nd November 2017, the finalists came down to Singapore for the regional fianls and the crowning of the Grand Winner of The 5-Min Video Challenge organised by Singtel Group. Watching the video clips of the finalists at the media event, followed by the media interview. I had a wonderful time watching some amazing short films/videos produced by talented filmmakers from the region, some were very touching, their cinematography style that I relate to quite closely.

The regional judges were impressed with the regional finalists for this year 2017 “The 5-Min Video Challenge”.

Mr Khoo, who returned as a judge for the second year, said, “We were wowed by the great improvement in the short videos this year. The winning works really spoke to us and we look forward to working with some these talented filmmakers.” He advised aspiring filmmakers to hone their craft by continuously filming and finding new ways to tell a story even with their smart phones.

“The 5-Min Video Challenge” is both a celebration of the filmmaking talent in Asia and a content push by the Group. Centred on the theme “Connecting Lives” this year, it attracted hundreds of video submissions from Australia, Gabon, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. The videos submitted spanned a range of genres from comedy, romance to drama and slice of life.

Listening to the words, views and thoughts of the regional judging panel headed by award-winning Singapore filmmaker Mr Eric Khoo and comprising Mr Aaron Lea (Australia), Mr Joko Anwar (Indonesia), Mr Serge Abessolo (Gabon), Mr Quark Henares (the Philippines) and Mr Thitipong Kerdtongtawee (Thailand). This was an eye-opener for me personally; I had a better understanding of producing videos/films/content from both sides of the story, from the filmmakers/producers/writers to the judges/clients/end consumers. I was involved a recent behind the scenes photo shoot for my friends short film/videos project, therefore, I began to appreciate filmmaking and cinematography in the short films industry, from a consumer perspective and content producer perspective.

After watching the videos submissions by the finalists and listening to the media press conference, the finalists and guests proceed to the ballroom for the awards announcement and prize presentation. Of all the finalists, I had some personal favourite videos/films submission, do visit The 5-Min Video Challenge YouTube account and check out the regional finalists 2017 playlist!

The two finalists from Singapore submitted these two videos “Sarah” and “The Red Packet”, I do like the works of our finalists from Singapore! “Labasan ng Feelings Sa Foodpark”, a video submission from the Philippines also caught my attention too!

Alright, have you watched all the videos/films submissions by all the Regional Finalists? This year’s 2017 The 5-Min Video Challenge were won by the Indonesians, the Grand Winner and runner up. Firstly, let’s view their videos submssions:

Grand Winner – Chick Chick

Chick Chick tells the story of a young girl who befriends a chicken. Her attempts to communicate with the chicken, inspires her to try and reconnect her fighting parents with a tin-can phone.

Runner Up – Sowan

The runner-up Sowan follows a man who travels to various places on his motorbike. He hears about recent agricultural issues and discovers the conflicts among farmers, middlemen and sellers.

With the announcement of the Grand Winner, runner up and finalists, we hope to see more of their works and videos on each of Singtel Group member’s mobile and video platforms, allowing them to reach a 670 million strong audience across Asia, Australia and Africa.

Singtel launched Apple iPhone X

The Apple iPhone X was a highly anticipated smartphone in the Singapore market when it was first announced by Apple in California. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus first arrived into the market, followed by the iPhone X. Although I am in the midst of upgrading from my iPhone 7 Plus, I am quite curious to see, feel and touch the iPhone X.

On the morning of 3rd November 2017, I attended Singtel’s launch of the eagerly anticipated Apple iPhone X at ComCentre, catching the official launch and the first Singtel customer to get the much coveted iPhone X from Singtel.

Mr Wang Wei Hong, 33, arrived at Singtel Shop Comcentre at 6am this morning, making history as the first Singtel customer to get the much coveted iPhone X. The bank service manager is a huge Apple fan – he has every iPhone model made and also queued up early to be third in line for the iPhone 8 Plus when it was launched two months ago in September.

Mr Wang purchased the 256GB iPhone X in Space Grey and is most excited about its “all screen” design and the “optical image stabilisation” feature on the smartphone’s cameras.  He added, “I’ve taken the day off and will spend time exploring all the features of my new iPhone X”.

There was high demand for the iPhone X among Singtel customers, with pre-order stocks snapped up in minutes. Singtel customers who pre-ordered successfully will be collecting their iPhone X at a special three-day iPhone X launch event at Singtel Shop Comcentre.

After the official Singtel iPhone X launch was over, I stayed around for a while more with fellow tech blogger friend Hisham, to check out the features of the iPhone X, trying it out, testing the video quality, comparing the size and features of the iPhone X with my iPhone 7 Plus. Thanks to Hisham for posing with the iPhone X and helping me with holding the iPhone X and my iPhone 7 Plus together for comparisons!

I am probably going to continue and stick it out with my current iPhone 7 Plus (still working good) for now, till my 2 year Singtel contract expires next year and I shall wait for the next iPhone model.

If somebody is going to give me an iPhone X as a Christmas (December) + birthday (January) gift for me, I will accept it with open arms!

LifeProof introduced NËXT and SLAM cases for iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus & iPhone X

LifeProof is a brand that built up its reputation on stylish, ultra-protective and innovative smartphone cases. Although I had seen LifeProof in the market previously, I didn’t know too much about them until I visited an event that showcased both OtterBox and LifeProof smartphone cases for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.

During the recent OtterBox and LifeProof event, I had a glimpse into some of the LifeProof smartphone cases for iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. While I am not planning to upgrade yet, the new smartphone cases are also suitable for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus!

With both OtterBox and LifeProof offering consumers many choices to choose from, for the protection of their smartphones, along with their different designs and styles. If the opportunity arises, I would share my review experiences with some of the LifeProof smartphone cases with my readers.

Let me share with you information on the new smartphone cases for iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X by LifeProof:

NËXT boasts six layers of protection in an ultra-sleek package to keep iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X safe from drops, dirt and snow. The two-piece outer shell wraps securely around the phone and delivers maximum durability and drop defense. A raised bevel bolsters drop and touchscreen protection while the display is left uncovered for direct access to the glass. A clear outer layer prevents scuffs, scrapes and scratches and an inner lining seals the case and phone from dirt. An audio-transparent mesh covers the speakers to block dust and debris while audio flows freely.

In true LifeProof fashion, NËXT protects from drops up to 2 meters, carries an IP-5X rating for blocking dirt and dust and keeps snow out. It is available in four colors – Black, Beach Pebble, Seaside and Cactus Rose – and is also compatible with iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

With SL?M, deflecting damage never looked so good. Engineered to withstand drops of up to 2 meters while still maintaining a slim profile, SL?M combines sport, style and safety for iPhone. A transparent shell reveals iPhone’s factory finish while the perimeter flashes one of four available color options – Night Flash, Lava Chaser, Aloha Sunset & Free Flow – and is also compatible with iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

FR? will carry on the tradition of true four-proof protection. The two-piece shell cloaks iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in 360 degrees of security. A built-in screen guard keeps the display free of scratches while the phone is fully sealed from water to 6.6 feet for up to an hour. FR? for iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are drop tested to 2 meters and block out dirt and snow. It will be available in six colors.
