The LG V30+ is now available in Singapore

The LG V30+ has finally arrived and it is now available for purchase in Singapore starting from today 2nd December 2017. Coming in Aurora Black, Moroccan Blue, Lavender Violet and Cloud Silver, the V30+ will retail at S$1,098 at M1, Singtel, StarHub, and other LG authorized retailers. Each purchase of the V30+ comes with a two-year warranty, a 15% discount voucher for all B&O Play devices and an iWalk Linkme 3,000mAH USB-C portable power bank.[1]

At a recent LG Singapore launch event, I had the opportunity to take a look at the LG V30+, a beautiful sleek smartphone packed with a number of features, innovative upgrades and smartphone firsts. The powerful video capabilities of the LG V30+ caught my attention, this would bring cinematography closer and easier to LG V30+ smartphone users, anyone can now shoot and produce videos, with the LG’s new Cine Video mode.

The LG V30+ is a pretty powerful lifestyle and media smartphone, from their Hi-Fi Quad DAC sound system, their advanced user experience and Cine Video mode. It would be an interesting experience to produce videos (and even short films) with the LG V30+ smartphone!

Check out the LG V30+ and have a feel of the LG latest V series flagship smartphone. I would share some key features of the LG V30+ smartphone below:

The V30+ packs advanced features such as an immersive QHD+ OLED display, professional Cine Video mode, and high-quality audio via Hi-Fi Quad DAC. LG showcases these capabilities and more in the LG V30+ through a series of campaigns.

Challenging Norms through LG V30+ Video Campaigns

The Cine Video mode on the LG V30+ makes users feel like a real filmmaking pro. In its latest This is Real campaign, real and honest moments of inspiring individuals shot on the smartphone were captured in docu-style segments. The video highlights and supports real people overcoming obstacles in their lives and achieving amazing feats. From revealing the sheer skill of a deaf dancer to highlighting the triumphs of an actress living with alopecia, the series is all about highlighting the V30+ as the smartphone to document everyday stories with cinematic results. Watch the This is Real video here: https://youtu.be/9FRBcjteA58.

With powerful multimedia features, the LG V30+ also challenges the user’s perspectives of creating content as highlighted in a Kinetic Art campaign. Teaming up with artist Michael Murphy, a pioneer of Perceptual Art and best known for his 2007 portraits of then-U.S. Presidential Candidate Barack Obama, his artworks interpreting the smartphone’s video and audio capabilities transform into different visuals from various angles, eventually coming together to form a ‘V’. Check out Michael Murphy’s Kinetic Art here: https://goo.gl/SkkEVN and https://goo.gl/rq3cjX.

These campaigns showcase the LGV30+’s multimedia strengths, a combination of its Cine Video and Hi-Fi Quad DAC that completes the LG V30+ experience, by placing these tools into the palm of the user’s hand in a 6.0″ QHD+ display form-factor.

A Crystal Clear Mobile Experience with Superior Features

Users can expect high-quality videos thanks to the finishing touches from Cine Effect, which applies filters and colorization that are unique to different movie genres. The industry-first Point Zoom feature also allows users to smoothly zoom in on any area within the frame during filming.

The primary camera on the rear of the V30+ is an F1.6 aperture Crystal Clear Lens that lets in more light, delivering brighter, more dynamic shots with highly accurate colors and clear images. The second rear camera on the V30+ is an upgraded 13MP wide-angle lens with two-thirds less edge-distortion than in the V20.

The widely-lauded Hi-Fi Quad DAC is even better on the LG V30+, thanks to brand-new digital filters and sound presets. Being the first global smartphone to support Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) technology that enables the streaming of high-resolution audio, the new digital filter modifies the pre- and post-ringing of the impulse response. The pre-programmed presets let users quickly find the sound experience that suits them best, be it enhanced or detailed, and live or bass.

An extra touch of convenience is delivered through its Qi wireless charging Extended Power Profile (EPP). It enables safe, wireless fast charging capability while remaining compatible with existing Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), Qi 5W, baseline transmitters that are commonly used today.

LG SIGNATURE – Sophisticated and Modern Ultra-Premium Brand

LG Electronics recently launched the LG SIGNATURE, their ultra-premium brand that blends sophisticated technology with modern minimalist designs. Their designs were very classy and elegant, showcasing the class, quality, performance, design and ultra-premium quality in their products line up of home appliances.

Picture courtesy of LG Electronics Singapore

At the recent LG SIGNATURE media event held at ION Orchard, I had a close up view of the LG SIGNATURE products on display and they lived up to their branding and reputation as an ultra-premium class of LG Electronics products. There were the LG SIGNATURE OLED TV, LG SIGNATURE Refrigerator with an InstaView Door-in-Door feature, LG SIGNATURE Washing Machine with advanced TWINWash functions and a LG SIGNATURE Air Purifier with a Rain View Window.

“Our driving principle is to ensure that the essence of our products is preserved from idea generation through to the end-user experience,” said Mr. Brian Park, Vice President of LG Electronics Singapore. “LG SIGNATURE is the embodiment of everything that is important to LG and we hope to convey that philosophy to customers who appreciate great products from strong brands.”

At the LG SIGNATURE media event, Chef Janice Wong of 2am:dessertbar, one of Singapore’s famous pastry chefs, was present, partnering with LG, to bring about a multi sensory edible art journey. Chef Wong pastries were placed inside the LG SIGNATURE Refrigerator at the media event, the guests at the media event loved it!

I am honored to work with LG and create a gastronomical art journey that takes inspiration from the LG SIGNATURE,” says Chef Wong. “Each installation will embody the essence of the featured appliance. For example, the Thins is a nod to the OLED TV’s crystal-clear quality. The refrigerator’s InstaViewTM Door-in-DoorTM feature inspired the Chocolate Bon Bons filled with sweet surprises within. Imitating the look of detergent lather, the Edible Bubbles pays tribute to the washing machine with advanced TWINWash™ feature. And finally, the Clean Scent is reminiscent of the clean air that one can enjoy with the air purifier.”

Let me share more information on the LG SIGNATURE products below –

LG SIGNATURE OLED TV W7 Series

This is a very gorgeous and beautifully designed OLED TV, it’s razor thin, the OLED panel, measuring only 2.57mm thin in the 65-inch model, can be mounted directly on the wall with only magnetic brackets, thus flushed against the wall with minimal gap as if it were a piece of wall art.

This LG OLED TV has the Dolby Atmos® feature build inside, giving viewers superb sound technologies along with the Dolby Vision™, viewers have one of the most advanced cinema systems right in front of them.

LG SIGNATURE Refrigerator

This is a very elegant and minimalist referigerator, smart, intuitive and revolutionary too. By doing a knock knock on the refrigerator, users can view what’s inside without opening the door, saving energy costs, all thanks to the InstaViewTM Door-in-Door feature, which makes the opaque Door-in-Door® compartment transparent.

There is an innovative method to open the refrigerator door, just by placing your foot at the bottom where there is a smart sensor detector located.

Premium LG SIGNATURE Washing Machine

The innovative LG SIGNATURE Washing Machine builds on the technology of the LG TWINWashTM washer. The premium 24-inch front load washing machine is more durable, more convenient than ever and features the unique pedestal TWINWash™ Mini under the main unit.

Doing away with unnecessary buttons, the minimalistic design of the LG SIGNATURE Washing Machine is highlighted by the beautiful touch-enabled Quick Circle User Interface embedded in the glass door. Positioned at a 17-degree angle, the panel can be easily accessed even when the user is standing upright. The Push Open washing machine door opens with a slight push, even when the user’s hands are full. Meanwhile, the washer’s enamel coating not only gives it a sleek exterior but also repels fingerprints, scratches and corrosion.

LG SIGNATURE Air Purifier

I like the LG SIGNATURE Air Purifier, it looks like a Star Wars droid!

It has a Rain View Window, users can have a relaxing and smoothing visual experience by viewing the air purification process and how it works inside the air purifier.

The advanced Watering System feature harnesses the power of water to filter our the harmful chemicals and contaminants while quickly brining the room to comfortable humidity levels.

LG launched Asia Business Innovation Centre in Singapore

LG recently launched the Asia Business Innovation Centre in Singapore, showcasing their quality products for the businesses and companies, in the area of digital signage solutions. LG is a very known and reputable international brand producing digital signage solutions and their digital signage footprints can be seen all over the world.

Businesses such as government, hospitality, retail shopping malls, travel, airports, transportation, digital signage of various types and sizes would interest them, getting the attention of their customers and visitors. If you (e.g. hoteliers, shopping malls) are tasked to search for digital signage solutions to be placed in your company or in your business operation locations, look no further, check out LG’s digital signage solutions at their Asia Business Innovation Centre, make an appointment and visit them.

During their official media opening event, I had the opportunity to visit and got up close and personal with some of the LG digital signage solutions. Their range of products were amazing and of very high quality and standards. The LG digital signage products are for B2B and they would definitely strike an interest with the different types of businesses.

Here are some photos of the digital signage solutions showcased at LG Asia Business Innovation Centre that I took when I attended their official media launch –

Let me share more information and details on some of the LG digital signage solutions that are showcased at the LG Asia Business Innovation Centre in Singapore –

OLED Displays: The Future of Digital Signage is Here

OLED display technology is the market’s best-in-class solution right now. And LG is the leader in this field. The OLED’s self-lighting pixels switch off completely to reproduce absolute blacks with no light bleed, thus offering infinite contrast. They promise accurate color reproduction to offer vivid display. With just two layers and no backlight, OLED displays are incredibly lightweight and thin. Their wide-viewing angles also deliver an awe-inspiring picture quality across the entire screen.

OLED Dual-View Signage for Seamless Playback

Featuring a slim design and versatility, LG’s 65-inch one by four Dual-View Curved Tiling OLED signage consists of eight connected double-sided, flexible OLED panels for superior image rendering viewed from any angle. Each panel offers 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) image quality with 3,840 x 2,160 individual pixels while its system on a chip and 128GB of internal memory work together to deliver perfect UHD playback without the need for a separate computer or media player.

The Dual-View Flat OLED Signage (55EH5C) blends pencil-thin design, artistic value and display functionality into one. It boasts Full HD resolution, a brightness level of 400 cd/square meters as well as an impressive bezel of 2mm. Thanks to its innovative slim design, it offers a dual-view display which saves on space while optimally screening the contents. It can also be suspended from the ceiling, deployed as a floor stand or mounted on the wall.

Scalable Video Walls for Creative Installations

With LG’s OLED Video Wall, businesses and organizations can think of new ways to create spellbinding and interactive experiences. At the centre, guests will get to see LG’s 65-inch OLED Video Wall solutions. In particular, the 1×3 OLED Video Wall unit can be connected with other units to create signs of various configurations. It is easy to install and can be customized to create creative solutions that deliver impactful experiences. Also, they are equipped with an image adjustment algorithm that can adjust to objects located within the bezel boundary for a seamless viewing experience.

OLED Signage Case Studies: A Myriad of Creative Display Possibilities

South Korea’s Incheon International Airport has tapped on LG’s OLED displays to redesign its passenger experience. Its main terminal is adorned with massive structure walls that leave passengers in awe. Each of the two displays composes of 140 55-inch curved OLED panels, resulting in displays that stand at 13 meters in length and 8 meters in width. The two curved displays feature a variety of content, such as brilliant fireworks set against a night sky. And because every pixel in an OLED display emits its own light, there is no need for heavy LED backlighting, making the airport displays incredibly light and flexible that it allows them to hang from the ceiling with minimal support.

Tourist destination N Seoul Tower has also set the gold standard of visitor experience by utilizing LG’s digital signage solutions. The beautiful entrance is a curved OLED tunnel, on which images of Seoul are projected. Visitors then move on to the 14-meter OLED panorama, which showcases the exquisite Gyeongbokgung Palace in different seasons. Another OLED display in N Seoul Tower is the OLED Wave that is set on the ceiling, it comprises of 120 curved OLED panels, achieving picture quality that is 30 times better than UHD TV. Visitors also get to view artist Kathy Klein’s Danmala series via the OLED Circle, which promises real blacks, life-like colors and uncompromised image clarity that does justice to the artist’s beautiful mandala-inspired motifs.

With LG’s new OLED Video Walls, the newly constructed Lotte World Tower has managed to elevate the visitor experience skyward. The highest building in Korea, the venue recently installed 55-inch OLED Signage Wall in its two Sky Shuttles with double layers, a total of 60 units installed. The walls and ceilings are all fitted with the solutions, thus creating a thrilling and immersive virtual reality environment. The videos depict the many tourist attractions in Seoul, from Kyung Bok palace to the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and Jamsil Baseball Stadium. The surreal experience almost feels as if one is journeying through all these places in just a matter of a few minutes.

LCD Video Walls Push the Boundaries of Interactive Engagement

LG’s 55-inch LCD screens with the world’s narrowest even bezel will also be on display at the LG Asia Business Innovation Centre. The solutions have a narrow bezel, which enables the overall video wall image to resemble a single, complete display.

The Social Tree at Changi Airport is one example of how LG’s LCD video walls can bring the fun to everyday customers. Towering at 8.7-meter-high, 11.1-meter-wide larger-than-life installation sits at the heart of Terminal One at the Central Piazza. Symbolizing the global connections offered by the airport, the hi-tech installation composes of 64 47-inch digital displays in the form of a cylindrical video wall and eight kiosks where travelers can post images and also share photographs and videos via Facebook and email. The design furthermore incorporates 100 bars that stretch up and flex outwards, a tribute to Changi Airport’s international reach.

Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre has also left a lasting impression on its visitors with its mega LCD digital wall. Affectionately called The Big Picture, the installation is touted by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest high-definition video wall. Part of the modern facade of the building, the video wall combines 664 LCD screens and stands at more than three stories high and 60 meters wide, The Big Picture serves as an iconic feature that showcases contents of Suntec Singapore’s Convention and Exhibition Centre’s facilities, partners, events and advertisers.

Other world-class organizations have also tapped onto the concept of video walls to wow their customers. The world’s leading brand in gaming, Razer, was the first global deployment carried out by LG B2B Solutions in Asia. Display and experience stores were installed with LG displays and SuperSignTM content management software across Asia and North America to display marketing and promotional contents – the biggest display being a 3 by 5 video wall at their San Francisco branch outlet amongst other standalone screens.

LG’s Ultra Stretch Digital Signage Enhances Return of Investment

Another brand that has managed to elevate the customer experience is Lagardère’s The Fashion Gallery, Changi Airport. At the entrance of the gallery sit expansive and unique displays that command the attention of passersby: LG’s 86-inch Ultra Stretch digital solution (86BH5C). This ultra-wide 58:9 bar-type widescreen signage delivers an immersive UHD viewing experience in an extraordinary 3,840 x 600 format. Thanks to its Picture-by-Picture feature, it can divide a screen into four parts, displaying up to four separate types of video content simultaneously. The solution utilizes LG Ultra Stretch Content Manager software for fast and convenient customization of images and video content. With this software, updating advertising messages and content is no longer a hassle, a feature that is especially convenient in a fast-paced industry such as fashion.

Other than the Ultra Stretch, LG has in its arsenal digital retail signage solutions that can enliven the customer experience while improving return on investment. They boast the ability to screen high-definition content such as dynamic Point of Purchase advertising, branding videos, and interactive graphic interfaces. This instantly grabs customers’ attention to increase footfall, achieve impact, strengthen customer loyalty with consistent branding messages and push conversion rates with engaging product information and expanded assortment offerings.

Ultra HD, Ultra Impressive

Other industry-leading LCD digital signage technologies will also be featured at LG Asia Business Innovation Centre. Think big with the 98LS95A, an UHD Premium Large Display that is an alternative to the traditional 2×2 video wall. It shares the same salient features as other models, such as 86UH5C, 75UH5C, 65UH5C and 55UH5C. Expect flawless content delivery on a large screen as well as nifty features such as Picture-by-Picture or Picture-in-Picture which offers four divided split screens in landscape or portrait formats.

Unique LED Transparent Film: A First in the Market

Another unique technology at the centre incorporates LED diodes in a transparent film that can be installed over windows to expand installation options. Converting ordinary glass into stunning digital signage, this LED film can offer eye-catching digital content and information while interacting seamlessly with the surrounding environment.

Turn Visitors into Customers

Effective advertising messages deserve a platform where they can shine, and LG’s standard signage is that platform. The signage solutions’ high-performance System-on-Chips can execute several tasks at the same time and guarantee smooth content playback. They boast Picture-by-Picture and Picture-in-Picture features so brand owners can decide the best layouts for their advertisements. The webOS platform also makes content creation a cinch while LG’s software development kit makes content development and management easy. Best of all, the content can be created, distributed and controlled without a need for a dedicated computer or server, so there is no need to hire a tech personnel just to maintain it.

Reach an Even Larger Audience with Outdoor Displays

Only the most durable installations are suited to brave the outdoors. LG’s outdoor display solutions, from Open Frame Displays to Window Facing and Enclosure solutions, check the criteria of superb performance, 24/7 reliability and stunning visual image quality. Buoyed by their anti-reflection coating, the solutions will encounter less interference between reflected external light and back light. The conformal coating also enhances circuit board reliability by safeguarding it against dust, iron shavings, humidity and weather conditions.

LG’s Open Frame Displays can be deployed in airports as billboards to pique the interest of incoming tourists. Features such as smart brightness control help to save power whenever necessary, and real-time remote monitoring allows businesses to rectify any error quickly without losing engagement. LG’s Window Facing solutions are also a perfect choice for in-window environments. Its noise level is under 25dB, making it even quieter than a recording studio. It is able to operate even in high temperatures, and also offers excellent energy-efficiency and cost savings.

Achieve that Personal Touch with LG’s Touch Screen Displays

Customer and guest engagement can also be improved by directly involving them in the experience. LG’s wide range of touch screen display solutions is designed to bring brand messages to audiences in a variety of creative ways. The 84TR3B and KT-T751, for example, boast a 10-point multi-touch experience: they can recognize up to 10 simultaneous touches without needing a separate pen. This means more customers, family members or friends can get in on the action at any one time. Equipped with a no-ghosting technology, the solutions allow audiences to write, draw and express their ideas in a seamless manner. This tactile experience is personal, and a surefire way for audiences to better remember a business’s branding message and products.

Redefining Hospitality

Buoyed by LG’s holistic hospitality solution comprising of commercial-grade LCD, touch screens, and stretch screens, hotels can now make a strong first impression and design a five-star guest experience. These solutions can be used for digital way-finding, information dissemination, menu boards and dynamic advertising purposes.

Charlotte Marriott City Center, United States of America, is an example of a hotel that has reaped benefits by tapping on LG’s solutions. Understanding that hotel guests not only utilize TVs for entertainment but also at times for communication purposes, the TV was recognised as a key communication tool to provide hotel-related information and amenities. By installing LG OLED TVs and monitors in its M Club Lounge, the hotel has created a collaborative space where guests can work and seek entertainment.

Its unique communal guest space also boasts innovative video walls with ultra-slim bezels that transform the typical hotel gym into an interactive center.

LG G6 is now in Singapore

The LG G6, the latest flagship smartphone by LG Electronics (LG) was unveiled on 5th April 2017. At the media launch event in Singapore, I witnessed the unveiling of the LG G6 and had a short hands on session with the LG G6 smartphone.

This LG G6 is a smartphone packed with a number of interesting features and it was also designed with the help and input from the consumers through feedback and user opinions. With ideas, designs, inputs and opinions from both sides of the LG G6, the manufacturer/designer and consumers, the LG G6 is a smartphone that has the best of both worlds.

During my short hands on session at the LG G6 unveiling event, I was most impressed with the following features of the LG G6

  • Form factor and screen size, a 5.7inch 18:9 QHD + FullVision Display in the size of 148.9 x 71.9 x 7.9mm
  • Dual 13MP cameras with wide angle lens.
  • Rich and vivid colours produced by the LG G6 dual lens smartphone camera
  • New photography features – Square Camera Mode, Grid shot, Snap shot, Match shot and Guide shot

While I wasn’t able to fully try and test all of the new photography features out during the event, I would share some of the photographs on the capabilities of the wide angle lens. Personally speaking, the LG G6 smartphone camera functions and features had improved and I hope to obtain a review unit and share on the LG G6 smartphone, from a daily usage for leisure/work and as a smartphone camera for enthusiast/serious photographers.

Meanwhile, let me share the key information and details of the LG G6 from the press release information below –

LG Electronics (LG) unveiled the G6 smartphone, its latest flagship offering that features a bold new display format complemented by a cinematic viewing experience, exceptional screen to body ratio, wide angle camera and more. Designed in response to consumer feedback and user opinions, the LG G6 focuses on the features consumers want, most notably a big screen that comfortably fits in one hand.

First Smartphone in the World to Feature 18:9 Display Format

The LG G6 comes with a 5.7-inch QHD+ (2,880 x 1,440 resolution) FullVision display, and for the first time ever in a smartphone, an 18:9 screen aspect ratio. Compared with conventional 16:9 aspect ratio displays, the 18:9 format offers more viewing space and a more immersive experience when streaming videos and playing games.

Despite the larger display format, the LG G6 comes in an ergonomic design that is optimal for usage with one hand. The ergonomics research teams led by Dr. Andris Freivalds at Pennsylvania State University and Dr. Ji Yong-gu at Yonsei University tested the smartphone, and it received the highest marks for the test categories including stability when holding the phone, comfort in various postures and actions, as well as muscle fatigue when using the smartphone for long periods.

Sculpted from aluminium and glass, the G6 features a minimalist and sleek design smooth to the touch. The metal frame that is a soft matte finish, imparts solidity in style with a high gloss back is perfectly flat. The rounded corners of the G6 also disperse the impact if the phone is dropped.

Elevate the Mobile Viewing Experience with Dolby Vision

With the rising trend for content on demand and a greater viewing experience, the LG G6 now supports two High Dynamic Range (HDR) standards for viewers to get more out of cinematic contents available for smartphones. As the first smartphone to feature Dolby Vision technology, the LG G6 also supports HDR 10, both of which are standards for the picture quality technology that displays a wider range of colour and luminosity. The darkest and brightest areas are more vivid, revealing greater detail for a truly immersive viewing experience. Users will get to enjoy cinematic-like viewing experience for streaming videos from Netflix, Amazon and more content providers that are increasingly creating HDR video content.

Dual 13MP Cameras with Wide Angle Lens to Capture all the Beauty

LG G6’s dual 13MP rear cameras, which boast a 125-degree wide angle lens, capture more in a shot that regular phones cannot achieve. When taking scenic shots of natural landscapes such as vast mountain ranges and waterfalls, simply switch to the wide angle lens to get all the beautiful details in. Users will also experience seamless transitions when zooming in and out between the wide angle and standard camera lenses even during 4K video capture.

*** Special thanks to Dennis from SuperAdrianMe for holding the LG G6 and allowing me to take these 2 photographs! ***

The G6 comes with an expanded 100-degree field of view with its 5MP front camera, which means users can take selfies or wefies without the need for a selfie stick. Plus, the camera reduces edge distortion, which makes for more natural-looking images.

*** Special thanks to Ivan from SGIG for holding the LG G6 and allowing me to take this wefie view photograph ***

Square is the New Creative
The LG G6 smartphone offers a Square Camera Mode, which offers new exciting ways to create photos with the Snap shot, Match shot, Grid shot and Guide shot features. Snap shot splits the screen into two, taking advantage of the screen’s 18:9 display which are essentially two squares. The upper half is a viewfinder while the bottom half lets users preview the photos after they take them for easy comparisons. Match shot allows users to get creative, matching disparate photos, such as the wings of a bird to the tail of an airplane.

With Grid shot, users can form a collage made up of four quadrants with photos and video contents. The mode eliminates the need for any third-party apps, and users can share the collages on their favourite social networks instantly.

Finally, the Guide shot is a smart and creative feature that matches the composition of a chosen image to act as a guide for the next shot. This is especially useful to snap a series of photos, such as striking a similar pose in different settings, or various cuisines shot in the same plating format.

With the Square Camera Mode, users can also take pictures in 1:1 ratio on one window while checking, editing and uploading pictures in another window immediately after shooting. They can even create animated GIF files by combining between 2 and 100 photos from the gallery in a loop.

By taking perfectly square photos in 1:1 ratio, the LG G6 is ideal for Instagram, Snapchat and other social media apps. Users can also choose other ratios, such as 4:3, 16:9 and 18:9 based on their preferences.

Built for Durability

The LG G6 boasts IP68 water and dust resistance, which makes it protected up to 1.5 meters of water for as long as 30 minutes. Users can now worry less about accidental drops in water and spillages.

The smartphone also endures tests for high temperatures and nail penetration, and uses a proprietary technology that dissipates heat via an internal heat pipe, the first in an LG smartphone. LG engineers have also positioned the components most prone to overheating as far from each other as possible.

Everyday Tasks a Cinch with the Google Assistant

The LG G6 has Google Assistant built-in. It works seamlessly with LG apps, empowering users to get fast answers, manage everyday tasks, enjoy the best music and videos and search the G6 quicker than ever. And with the remote after-service utilizing artificial intelligence, the more Google Assistant is used, the more personalized the user experience becomes.

“The LG G6 offers users new visual and manual experiences, as it marries an expanded screen with the convenience of one-handed use,” said Mr David Yoh, Mobile Communications Business Director of LG Electronics Singapore. “LG will continue to lead smartphone innovation with a focus on convenience and reliability in order to exceed consumer expectations.”

LG announced V20

LG recently announced a new model to their premium flagship smartphone family, the LG V20. I attended their launch event in Singapore and had a short hands (probably 30mins) on with the LG V20 smartphone. I would share some thoughts from my short 30mins hands on experiences with the LG V20 smartphone –

  • A good balance between a fun lifestyle smartphone with pretty good camera capabilities/features
  • Wide angle lens capability
  • Good audio experience packed inside with B&O Play features and a pair of B&O Play earphones
  • High quality screen (QHD IPS Quantum Display)
  • Sleek, beautiful and sophisticated build quality

If the opportunity allows, I would request for a review unit when they are available for the Singapore market in November 2016 and share with my readers here on my experiences with the LG V20.

Let me share with you more information and details of the LG V20 from the press release information –

LG Electronics (LG) unveiled the V20, the latest in its V series of smartphones, delivering the highest multimedia capabilities available in a mobile device. The V20 boasts new features including Hi-Fi Quad DAC, HD Audio Recorder, Steady Record 2.0 and front and rear wide-angle lens cameras to deliver best-in-class performance. It is also the world’s first smartphone to come preloaded with Android 7.0 Nougat OS and the new Google In Apps phone search function.

20160804-lg%c2%a6%c2%a6%c2%a6-v20_silver-001-off

The LG V series is a premium flagship smartphone line designed to provide users with the best video and audio experience. LG looked at the customers of the V10 and examined what they wanted and needed and determined that the V20 is geared towards the prosumers — discerning users who want convenient access to cutting-edge features.

A Sonorous Audio Experience by B&O PLAY

Hi-Fi Quad DAC

The V20 is the world’s first smartphone to feature a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, powered by ESS Technology, designers of high-performance audio products. Powered by ESS SABRE ES9218, the Quad DAC in the V20 delivers clearer sound by minimizing distortion and ambient noise by up to 50 percent. With 75-stage fine volume and L/R balance controls as well as support for lossless music formats including FLAC, DSD, AIFF and ALAC, the V20 delivers high-quality sound to any pair of earphones.

lg-v20-hi-fi-recording

HD Audio Recorder

The HD Audio Recorder represents the next level of sound recording. This feature lets users capture studio quality audio with a wider dynamic frequency range using three high AOP microphones to record incredible sound that surpass audio recordings on conventional smartphones. With Studio Mode, users can manually control sound with easy-to-use keys similar to ones found in video cameras and use Music Recorded to create high quality audio suitable for auditions by recording singing voices over existing music.

In an effort to further enhance audio functions and design; LG continues its collaboration with B&O PLAY. The result in the LG V20 is a natural, balanced sound, reflecting B&O PLAY’s acoustic engineering philosophy. LG V20 will come bundled with a special pair of B&O PLAY earphones worth $198. With the bundled B&O PLAY earphones, you can start enjoying the ultimate audio experience right away.

Delivering Share-worthy, Crisp, Clear Videos

Steady Record 2.0

The LG V20, powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 820 processor with X12 LTE, introduces Steady Record 2.0, leveraging Qualcomm Technologies’ electronic image stabilization (EIS) 3.0 to record sharper video footage while neutralizing shaky images. The gyro-based EIS improves sync accuracy between the image and the gyro by reducing sync latency to only 50 milliseconds. EIS is complemented by digital image stabilization (DIS) which further improves video quality in post-processing by adjusting objects across frames and minimizing distortion caused by rolling shutter for smoother action.

lg-v20-steady-record-2-0

Hi-Fi Video Recording

LG V20 owners can record Hi-Fi videos and manually control the settings for perfect audio quality using options such as Low Cut Filter (LCF) that removes unwanted background noise and Limiter (LMT) that sets recording distance. The LCF reduces background noise while the LMT zeroes in on voices the user wants to record. The V20 also captures audio using 24-bit / 48 kHz Linear Pulse Code Modulation (LPCM), the same format used in professional video equipment.

Capture It All and More

Front/Rear Wide Angle Lens

The wide angle capabilities of the front and rear cameras allow consumers to capture more background without having to physically step back to widen the shot. The 5MP front camera with a 120-degree lens expands the wefie experience so that more friends can be included in the frame.

lg-v20-wide-angle-camera

The dual-lens rear camera comprises of a 16MP with 75-degree large aperture standard angle lens, and a 8MP with 135-degree lens, the widest available in any smartphone. The wide angle feature makes it perfect for taking pictures in front of a gorgeous vista or inside a gigantic stadium.

Auto Shot

The Auto Shot Function on the front camera produces perfect selfies with its face detection feature, which triggers the shot when the subject is ready and smiling. There is no need to press the shutter button, which usually increases camera shake and the likelihood of a blurred shot.

Hybrid Auto Focus

The V20’s Hybrid Auto Focus (HAF) ensures a sharp picture every time. A fast and stable auto focus is delivered in any environment by integrating three AF mechanisms – Laser Detection AF, Phase Detection AF and Contrast AF – for both videos and photos. The V20 determines if LDAF or PDAF is best for a particular shot and then refines the focus with Contrast AF. Users can take full advantage of the V20 when capturing sharp images of friends or family in action, in any lighting conditions.

Gives You More of What You Love

Second Screen

The popular Second Screen feature that was first introduced on the V10 has improved in visibility. With double the brightness and 50 percent larger font size compared to the V10, the smaller display located above the main display allows users to easily view notifications and alerts in outdoor situations at a glance.

Now with the Expandable Notifications feature, users can tap a button on the Second Screen to enlarge notifications in order to check long messages at a glance and quickly send a reply or share information.

LG UX 5.0+

The LG V20 comes with the mobile user interface LG UX 5.0+ to make it easier to use the multimedia functions tailored to customer needs. The LG UX 5.0+ is an upgraded version of the LG UX 5.0 first introduced on the LG G5. It is also the world’s first smartphone interface to run on Android 7.0 Nougat.

The LG V20 also features Multi-window to display two apps at once in a split screen allowing users to drag text, images, and files from one app to another. The combination of these advancements together with the 5.7-inch main IPS Quantum Display offers the best in multitasking capabilities.1

In Apps

The LG V20 is the world’s first phone to showcase Google’s In Apps. The new search mode featured in the Google app, helps users find content not only from built-in apps including contacts, emails, text messages and photos, but also from user-installed apps. It also enables users to discover recently accessed apps, people to get in touch with, messages to read or activity across apps without having to type a query.

Premium Design for A Sophisticated Look

Premium Materials

To achieve both a sophisticated look and solid durability, LG uses lightweight aluminum, together with a new silicon-based material. AL6013 metal, found in aircraft, sailboats and mountain bikes, was selected to cover the back of the phone due to its sturdy but light properties. the top and bottom of the phone are made by Silicone Polycarbonate (Si-PC).

“The LG V20 is designed to offer customers a more dynamic experience by building on the most popular video and audio features of the V series,” said Mr. David Yoh, Mobile Communications Business Director of LG Electronics Singapore. “With the LG V20, we are giving our customers more of everything they love and less of anything they don’t need to set a new standard for premium smartphones.”

Available from November 5, 2016, in Silver and Titan, the LG V20 will retail for S$998 at all M1, Singtel, StarHub and authorized LG Mobile retailers. Each purchase comes with a mobile casing premium pack worth $88 while stocks last.

LG’s Lights Out, Stars On

The Northern Lights, one of Mother Nature most beautiful natural phenomena, is one of those natural beauty that never fails to attract us to watch and admire her beauty.

As a photographer myself, the Northern Lights is something that I really wanted to travel there, watch, enjoy and photograph it, one of the many beautiful natural phenomenas on our beautiful home, Earth. I hope that I am able to do it this winter 2016, keeping my fingers crossed and I hope to fulfil my dream!

LG embarked on a huge effort to recreate Northern Lights on OLED TVs, with their LG’s Lights Out, Stars On campaign, resonates with consumers worldwide and let me share with you the stories, photos and video of this LG’s Lights Out, Stars On campaign, from their press release information below –

LG’s Lights Out, Stars On campaign in Reykjavik, Iceland around its one-of-a-kind TV technology wrapped up in grand style with an OLED-themed concert by three high-profile Icelandic musicians — Ásgeir, GusGus and Ólafur Arnalds — at the award-winning Harpa Concert Hall. Designed to expose Iceland’s northern lights accessible to global consumers utilizing premium LG 4K OLED TVs, the multi-faceted Reykjavik campaign generated over 12 million views and online participation from over 360,000 consumers and fans.

Concert Attractor_01

The Lights Out, Stars On Concert began after a short introduction from Icelandic poet and novelist Andri Magnason and YouTuber Lewis Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy. Ásgeir, GusGus and Ólafur Arnalds then took the stage one by one, performing alongside OLED screens depicting the beauty of Iceland’s northern lights. The images and video displayed on 40 OLED TVs (over 330 million pixels) behind the musicians added to the unique ambiance at the Harpa concert hall, creating an unforgettable experience for the 1,000 guests in attendance.

Running until November 20, the OLED Gallery exhibit features LG G6 OLED TVs to showcase brilliant 4K photographs captured by famous Icelandic photographers. Providing ultra-clear OLED images of Iceland’s northern lights, wildlife, volcanic activity, glaciers, geography and more, the exhibit has proven to be a popular attraction since opening to the public.

OLED TV Gallery 01

This campaign was inspired by an event that took place in Reykjavik a decade ago. During the 2006 Aurora Borealis viewing season, Icelandic poet and novelist Andri Magnason suggested that the city of Reykjavik come together to make the beauty of the night sky visible within the city for the first time. Magnason wanted the people of Reykjavik to see the northern lights and stars against a completely black backdrop. Just as eliminating light pollution allowed the people of Reykjavik to see the lights in all their glory, the pitch black backdrop of OLED TVs heightens the contrast and delivers richer images. LG OLED TVs feature individually illuminated pixels, eliminating the need for image-distorting LED backlights. Without this backlight, OLED TVs are capable of displaying perfect black images alongside bright, lifelike colors.

In order to make Lights Out, Stars On a truly global event, LG gave away tickets via Facebook as part of an all-expenses paid Reykjavik travel package. A total of 4,000 fans entered the contest from the several countries such as USA, India, France, Germany, Sweden and UAE from which 8 winners were selected. In addition, the campaign’s video has been seen by 12 million viewers as of July 15 and was listed on Advertising Age’s top 10 weekly viral video chart in early July.

“We are excited that our event in Iceland has been so successful, attracting so many visitors and influencers,” said Brian Kwon, president of LG Home Entertainment Company. “Our innovation in television technology allowed us to launch the world’s first 55-inch OLED TVs in 2013. Our leadership is helping to pave a new path for OLED, with sales projected to double every year until 2020. We will continue looking for creative ways to improve our technology and to connect with consumers around the globe. Lights Out, Stars On is an excellent example of how unique approaches can help the company reach new audiences and clearly communicate the advantages of OLED.”

LG launched array of Premium Monitors

At the recent LG IT Media Launch event, I had the opportunity to view LG’s newest and wide range of premium monitors from the 4K to consumer monitors. There is a LG monitor that caught my attention and it was their UltraWide monitor! Monitors grab my attention because of my photography and I would be sharing more thoughts on the range of LG monitors before sharing the press release information, technical specifications and pricing.

IMG_1272

It would be ideal to have 2 big monitors side by side and I am able to work on different things concurrently. If I am able to have 3 big monitors such as 3 x LG UltraWide monitors, this would really be awesome for my photography, work and gaming! However, I would need the big office space with a big office table!

For this particular series of LG monitors launch, they are have IPS capabilities. Some key points that I saw from the LG IT Media Launch were –

  1. Colour calibration on LG UltraWide monitors, LG Ultra HD 4k and LG IPS monitors
  2. Total Colour Management on LG Ultra HD 4K monitors – colour calibrated, hardware calibration ready and true colour pro

IMG_1273 IMG_1274

From my conversation with the LG staff at the launch event, the monitors would be calibrated before leaving the factory. A colour calibrated monitor is definitely most welcomed for photographers and creative industry professionals.

The 31-inch LG Ultra HD 4k monitor colour gamut is AdobeRGB and it would really be nice to own that monitor! However, I think the 29-inch Curved LG UltraWide monitor would be on my wish list!

Let me share with you more information and details from the LG press release information below –

LG Electronics (LG) showcased its array of monitors set to heighten the viewing experience for end-users. UltraWide™, ultra-high-definition as well as consumer monitors took center stage and are poised to meet nuanced business and user demands.

UltraWide™ Monitors for Discerning Users

The UltraWide™ line-up generated much fanfare, in particular the 34UC98 and 29UC88. Coming in curved displays, these two monitors promise an immersive experience while boasting IPS capabilities. IPS panels are designed to offer rich, true-to-life colours, deep black levels, amazing contrast and colour detail at virtually any angle. Even at wide viewing angles, users can expect consistent picture quality.

The 34UC98 has chalked up notable wins, including the prestigious iF Design Award 2016, Reddot award 2016 and CES’s Innovation Award 2016. This 34-inch, 21:9 Curved UltraWide™ monitor features Thunderbolt 2, which allows users to transfer data at an amazing speed of around 20 gigabytes per second. The 3440 x 1440 Quad-high-definition resolution, picture quality-enhancing IPS technology and streamlined features cater to the needs of a wide range of users from avid gamers to digital media professionals, delivering a well-rounded multimedia experience for content creators and viewers alike.

IMG_1254

The 29UC88 boasts a 2560 x 1080 resolution, offering visual comfort and ensuring a superb viewing experience. The model celebrates the convergence of AMD FreeSync and 21:9 UltraWide™, which takes gaming to the next level where tearing and stuttering are now a thing of the past. The monitor also comes with First-person Shooter, Real-time Strategy and Custom modes, allowing gamers to choose the most ideal resolution for different game genres.

Ultra-High Definition 4K Monitors Cut a Swath

Also making an appearance is the 31MU97, which is designed to meet the sophisticated demands of working professionals. Boasting a Digital Cinema 4K display (4096 x 2160 resolution), its 10-bit colour depth supports over one billion colours and delivers accurate, detailed and natural-looking images. One of the monitor’s nifty features is the Total Colour Management. This feature maintains the colour standard through a calibrator and dedicated calibration software “True Colour Pro” to minimize any differences in colour space and expressions between the original images, monitor screen and printed collateral. The monitor also provides presets for various uses such as broadcasting, medical and calibration modes. Furthermore, the 31MU97 is equipped with two internal 5W speakers and MAXXAUDIO® functions for a wide range of dynamic, crisp, clean high and low sounds while reviewing or editing 4K contents.

IMG_1255

Equally impressive is the LG Ultra HD 4K monitor 27UD88, designed for creative professionals in mind and features the latest USB-C port technology. Representing the next generation of computer connectivity, the monitor allows users to charge a laptop as fast as with a dedicated power cord while simultaneously transferring data at USB 3.0 speed. The single cable gives users the ability to connect their laptops to an external monitor while also using the monitor as a power source, eliminating the need for more cables. The 27UD88 also offers colour presets including the popular Rec. 709 and SMPTE-C broadcasting standards, giving users a fast and easy way to adjust the picture depending on the screen content.

Consumer Monitors with an Affordable Price Tag

Also showcased at the LG IT Media Launch were models 24MP88HV, 27MP58VQ, 24MP58VQ, 22MP48HQ and 22M38H. These monitors stand out from the pack thanks to their outstanding designs. Compared with conventional counterparts, these sleek models have a reduced body frame depth of nearly 25 percent, helping users to better manage their workspace. With a slim make and stunning ArcLine Stand, the monitors also lend aesthetic value.

In addition to being perfect options for users looking for affordable alternatives, the monitors also pack commendable features. Before hitting the shelves, the monitors undergo colour calibration tests, ensuring clear images and vivid colours for your viewing pleasure. To maximize visual comfort, the monitors come with Reader Mode, which reduces blue light and eye strain for bookworms who spend hours reading on their computers. Also, the Flicker Safe function promises stable images regardless of brightness and frequency control, to ensure a consistent viewing experience. For gamers, the Black Stabilizer provides leverage — it brightens dark scenes for enemies in their hiding spots to be more visible. With the Screen Spilt feature and Picture-in-Picture mode, users can customise their multitasking by dividing the display for different tasks.
