The growth and expansion of the modern post-modernism society, influenced and dependent on information technology, electronic equipment and inter-relationships between people and countries from all over the world, had grown so quick and fast, a common word is “hectic pace of life”.

Singapore is no exception and being in a small yet densely populated in a small land mass, the pressures and fast pace of life does drive us to change and showing signs of Self-centred, Selfish, Greed and Fear of losing. Well, we can’t deny the higher income and standard of living we currently own and able to have. However, in all societies, there would definitely be fellow citizens not being able to catch up with the pace and growth, thus unable to enjoy the success of Singapore. The situations varies from different person to different families and we must not forget them while Singapore advances in the modern 21st century.

I believe Singaporeans would like to help their fellow counterparts in different ways and volunteering is one channel. However, with the demands of work, family and personal time, people faces difficulties setting aside time for volunteering. Now, there is a flexible volunteer system that is gaining popularity among Singaporeans, known as SGCares, that was recently reported in Channel News Asia report. With such an initiative and greater awareness, publicity and marketing, I believe more volunteers would step forward to offer their time and commitment to volunteering and helping people that are less well off.
