Disability<\/em><\/strong> – The\u00a0World Health Organization<\/a> defines\u00a0Disability<\/strong> as follows:\u00a0“Disabilities is an umbrella term, covering impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions. An impairment is a problem in body function or structure; an activity limitation is a difficulty encountered by an individual in executing a task or action; while a participation restriction is a problem experienced by an individual in involvement in life situations.<\/em> Thus disability is a complex phenomenon, reflecting an interaction between features of a person\u2019s body and features of the society in which he or she lives.<\/em>” (via Wikipedia<\/a>)<\/p>\n

For a person who is disabled, life can be very challenging and tough at times especially in this current pace of world economy, demands and expectations. Have you ever wonder how you would be able to help people of different disabilities to adapt and contribute to the society in a meaningful and productive manner ?<\/p>\n

Do you believe that the Information Technology (IT) can help a disabled person in many ways, equipping them with professional skills and knowledge to be working just like an able bodied employee ?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

This is where the IAC<\/a> comes in. IAC<\/a> stands for Infocomm Accessibility Centre<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/a>,<\/span><\/em><\/strong> it is Singapore’s 1st Centre established to provide training in infocomm technology across disability types, including physical disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment and developmental disabilities. IAC is the IT learning hub for the disabled people, offering them courses and building up apprenticeship programs with companies, thus giving the disabled people, the opportunity to learn and equip themselves professional IT skills and be a contributor to the economy and themselves.<\/p>\n
