Read More Books!

I love to read books since I was young, over the years growing up from primary, secondary, pre-tertiary, universtiy days, I read a variety of books. Somehow, once I entered into working life, I read less books although I picked it up again when I was in the financial advisory industry. Technology, internet and social media have reduced our time reading books, our attention time span has dropped tremendously.

That is something that keeps me reading, although on a lesser basis compared to my school days, it’s my writing/blogging on my photography/travel website/blog and my personal/technology website/blog. Accumulating my mileage of articles posted on both of my websites/blogs, I grew to unearth and self discover my journey in writing.

Packed with various genres of books from personal development, photography, travel, science fiction, Star Wars, National Geographic, non fiction history. Each and every book had some influence on my writing. Some of my biggest writing/books influences would probably be National Geographic Magazine, the little book of ikigai, Fernando Gro’s bookNo Missing Tools”.

In the year 2016, probably one of the most difficult years that I have ever faced in my life, I went back to reading different genres of books to get myself back on track, climbing my way up and out from the rock bottom. From 2016 till 2018, I added a few different books along the way, I am still finding interesting books to buy and keep! There was an article written by Michael Simmons, titled “The Way You Read Books Says A Lot About Your Intelligence, Here’s Why”. Based on the number of books that I have currently, I can and I am able to relate to the above article!

It’s time to read more different books, for self improvement, better knowledge and writing skills, than to get suck into the social media circus, too much complaining, too emotional draining, it’s getting more unhealthy and I need to reduce my time on it. I want to use social media in a more meaningful and useful way without abandoning them, due to the needs of modern social media marketing, digitial marketing, content marketing, publicity and awareness, using social media is an important channel in the current world we are living in.

At the most recent reading event, Read! Fest 2018 organised by the National Library Board, with this year’s theme “The Pursuit of Happiness”, I keynote lecture : How to be a modern travel writer in the age of Twitter and Instagram by Robert Twigger. His sharing was inspiring and encouraging, I wrote down his sharing and pointers on travel writing inside my travelers notebook.

One of my long term personal goals is to publish my own books and one of the books that I would like to publish are on my travel stories, adventures and explorations, through my collection of photographs that I took over my various travel adventures. I am still seeking, finding and working on this personal writer’s journey of mine.

Searching for more books on travel writing and hope to publish my travel book one day, on Hokkaido seeking ????, Komorebi and climbing up the mountains range with a “I am on the top of world feeling”.

Time to read more books! Time to push myself and create my own lasting legacy with my photographs, writing and books!

1,000th post and Not Out

1,000th post and not out! Sounds like a cricket match runs score achievement! While it is not a cricket match runs score, this was a very special milestone for me, my photography, photojournalism, documentation and writing journey that started in April 2006. Over the years, I grew and matured along with my photojournalist site, sharing my passion, interests, photography, travel and writing together. The journey was never smooth sailing, there were many ups and downs, there were times, I was lost, searching for my photography directions and growth.

I continued photographing, documenting, writing and sharing my photojournalism adventure stories, the statistics of the number of posts was never in my mind until I saw the number nearing to 1,000th and it perfectly coincides with the Hokkaido Photographers Invitation Program 2014 travel posts that I was scheduling to write and share!

My 1,000th milestone post was dedicated to the introduction of the Hokkaido Photographers Invitation Program 2014 – familiarisation trip and overview. This was one of biggest photography and travel portfolio till date and I was very proud and happy to be part of the Hokkaido Photographers Invitation Program 2014! At my photojournalist site, I was able to play the roles of a photographer, writer, traveller and poet, all in one, writing and sharing my thoughts, feelings and emotions. I was never a formally trained poet, writer, traveller and photographer and I must thank everyone of you here who supported and followed me throughout my journey!

My Hokkaido trip One Tree Hill post (also inspired by One Tree Hill by U2) could probably be one of my best (emotional/pull heart strings post) till date that has the elements of photography, writing, travel and poet coming all together.

There is still so much to learn, so much to photograph, document, write and share. As I continued and took the next step to start on new, different and special photojournalism adventures, the journey ahead looks wide, bright, colourful and going beyond the horizon. Where does this bring me to?

I do not have a magical crystal ball to see what the future lies for me. I dream, I plan and I prepare for my photography journeys ahead, it can be travel photography, it can be documentary (heritage related), it can be something else. Come walk with me, via my photography eyes, with my heart and soul, as I bring you more photography exploration and adventures here on my Photojournalist site!

Reaching my 1,000th post was a big achievement for me, it can only get bigger and further. This will not be possible without the support of my family, relatives, friends, supporters and followers. Thank you so much for walking this journey with me!

A personal journey that started off when I was a young kid during my primary school days, all in the name of fun and play. As I started upon my journey till today, I can imagine how much it had changed and impacted me over all these years (and still counting). A photography adventure that surpassed my imagination and expectations, definitely lots of sweat, tears, pride, joy and happiness. Made many new friends from both local and international arenas through the love of the art – Photography.

From a humble beginning by making spoilt my Dad’s SLR camera, to my current (almost quiet professional) setup of Canon DSLR and lenses, it had been an adventure that I never regretted that I started upon on Day One. As I slowly learned from my experiences and mistakes over the years of active photography adventure, photojournalism opened up a new realm for me, away from the hustle and bustle, the stress and pressure of the current hectic cut throat society. Exploring, documenting, writing, photographing and sharing, making a difference and paying it forward with my own personal photojournalism adventures. Moving beyond the travel and tourism genres, the areas of photography that I originally started off in (I have to thank National Geographic Magazine for the huge influence).

The adventure took a greater leap when I started to mentor and share my experiences, a skill that dawned upon me that for me to improve my photography (and any other skills in work or life), is to be to mentor, teach, share and impart my skills and knowledge that I currently possess to my friends, followers and disciples/students/juniors. In recent years, I embarked on this new photography journey that helps me to improve my photography skills and knowledge to the next level. This also enlightened me that learning is always and definitely life long and ongoing and there is always something new to learn in photography!

Unlocking small achievements in my photography journey in recent years, sometimes words just can’t describe, maybe through my photographs and stories that I produced. When I was invited to be featured in Canon EOS World Singapore for Photojournalism in March, it was a great honour and a  very humbling experience for me. This is definitely not the highest peak, this will spur me on to go for my next peak, even higher!

Here I am, featured on Canon EOS World Singapore – Member Spotlight! I would love to network, share and learn from fellow photographers, do drop me a note and connect with me over my photography sites!

Now to strive for my next peak in my photojournalism journey, will you continue to walk with me?

You’ll Never Walk Alone

A FB Page for My Photography

My photography journey and experiences had been a very fruitful, exciting and life enriching serious hobby and passion. Looking back the days when I started learning the SLR camera, the Pentax ME Super from my father, during the days of analogue camera with film, to the Nikon F401X SLR days to the digital camera before arriving at the Canon DSLRs that I am using today.

I am not exactly sure when did I really started into photography, there wasn’t any “proof” or “birth certificate” to indicate when I started taking up photography, I remembered around my Primary School days, that would be approximately 23 to 28 years ago that I first ventured into Photography and never looked back since then.

Ever since the arrival of the digital era, I started photographing more often than before. My journeys and photographs were documented, collected and written down onto my photoblog for sharing. It had been a long journey in the blogging / social media world, I grew along with it as well, riding on with the social media wave and expansion. My photoblogging took to a whole new level along with Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram and 500px.

Today, I would like to introduce my Facebook Page dedicated to my photography, my passion in them, my photojournalistic journey. This Facebook Page allows me to share a lot more on my passion, knowledge, learning, mentoring and sharing in photography to my supporters, followers and readers. The Facebook Page would also prevent me from flooding my own Facebook wall too many times!

If you love photography, do visit my Facebook Page and if you like my photography, would you like to click the “Like” button too ?
