LG unveiled LG V40 ThinQ smartphone - TGH Technology and Business Portal/Blog

LG Electronics recently unveiled the LG V40 ThinQ smartphone to their line-up. At their recent LG event, I had the opportunity to hold, feel, touch and try out the LG V40 ThinQ smartphone. The V40 series was built on successful predecessors of the LG V smartphone series family, I tried the LG V30 and it was a good multimedia smartphone with its photography and cinematography capabilities. When I held the LG V40 ThinQ, it felt sleek, lightweight, polished, minimalist and sophisticated.

The LG V40 ThinQ was built and improved further on that foundation, it’s a multimedia smartphone with strong photography, cinematography and social media capabilities, on top of its technological capabilities from the ThinQ segment build together inside them. Armed with 5 cameras, 3 cameras on the back, 1 x super wide, 1 x standard and 1 x telephoto, 2 cameras on the front, 1 x standard and 1 x wide, it is nice and ideal for users to have most aspects covered for their photography or/and cinematography requirements.

There are two new features that caught my attention during the launch of the LG V40 ThinQ event, the Cine Shot and Triple shot features. Do check out the short videos on them! The Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities would make the LG V40 ThinQ more powerful and better, that would help the story teller, the photographer, the cinematographer or someone who does all of the 3 roles in today’s society.

Let me share more key information and details on the LG V40 ThinQ smartphone:

The latest iteration of the acclaimed V series, the LG V40ThinQ incorporates a total of five cameras, and is a multimedia powerhouse device designed for today’s generation of storytellers who communicate with visuals and videos.

“With the LG V40ThinQ, creating and sharing high-quality content has never been easier for the prosumer,” said Mr Shawn Han, Managing Director of LG Electronics Singapore. “The five cameras offer incredible versatility, and with the camera’s artificial intelligence capabilities, users can take stunning photographs that stand out on social media platforms.”

Five Cameras in One Smartphone for Varied Perspective

The LG V40ThinQ is designed to deliver a truly all-encompassing smartphone camera experience. It features a rear camera module with three different lenses: 16MP super wide-angle, 12MP standard angle and 12MP telephoto. The three lenses allow shutterbugs to conveniently frame different shots without having to change their positions relative to the subject. The 107-degree super wide-angle lens captures more view in a frame, such as a vast mountain range or stunning lake, without having to physically step back to get more in a shot. The telephoto with 2x optical zoom (or 3.2x the zoom of the wide-angle lens) allows users to take clear shots of distant subjects, such as wildlife animals or birds, without much loss in image quality. The Triple Shot feature stitches together the images captured with each of the three lenses into a short video file for easy sharing.

The front camera features a 5MP wide-angle and 8MP standard angle lens that work in tandem to create the perfect bokeh effect, with an on-screen slider to adjust the amount of background blur. Other features allow selfie lovers to personalize their photos even more with unique lighting and special effects.

The pixel size of the main rear camera sensor has been improved by about 40 percent compared to the LG V30+, increasing from 1?m to 1.4?m, and the image sensor is more than 18 percent larger than its predecessor. In addition to delivering the sharpest and brightest images of any LG smartphone camera, the F1.5 aperture of the main camera delivers greater depth of field, half the shutter lag and significantly faster burst mode compared with the LG V30+.

The Perfect Shot, Made Easy

What is more, the smartphone boasts Dual PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus), which delivers automatic focusing that is 50 percent faster — about twice as fast as the industry average. The advanced HDR feature analyzes and determines the right exposure settings to create perfectly lit shots, eliminating overexposed backgrounds or underexposed subjects. Hence, subjects are always in perfect focus because the camera checks sharpness continuously until the shutter button is pressed.

LG has also upgraded the camera in the LG V40ThinQ to be even more powerful and intuitive than ever, capable of delivering the most ideal color, composition, white balance and shutter speed. The AI CAM’s new AI Composition feature taps into the phone’s intelligence to frame, capture and recommend an alternative shot to the one taken by the user. AI Auto White Balance automatically adjusts the color temperature across different lighting situations while AI Shutter selects the right shutter speed, a feature especially useful when capturing fast-moving subjects.

Other new features such as Cine Shot, 3D Light Effect, Makeup Pro, Custom Backdrop and Story Shot take the photography experience on the LG V40ThinQ to new heights. Cine Shot makes creating cinemagraphs – images with animation – incredibly easy and fun. Simply shoot a short video with any of the phone’s three rear cameras and “paint” the area to be animated with a finger. 3D Light Effect changes the tone of a photo with professional-looking lighting. Touch up any selfie with different looks using Makeup Pro or entirely change the background of a selfie with Custom Backdrop. Story Shot allows users to create fun photo composites. Simply choose a background image from existing photos in the photo gallery, or take a new backdrop with the smartphone. Then users can take a selfie which will superimpose them onto the background photo.
