A Day With A Volleyball Coach

I am a team sports player, had great fun playing football, basketball and rugby league, having training experiences in these fields, on physical fitness and tactics. Although over the years, having the chance to play team sports had significantly slowed down.

For a period of time, I was moving more towards individual running e.g. marathons and going to gym. While I was doing individual training, there were many opportunities to learn more about sports science and specialised physical training for the sports you are participating in.

A great friend of mine, Jack, got his sports coaching license and specialised in physical fitness, nutrition and his specialised sports, volleyball. I had the opportunity to learn under him during my previous 3 marathon runs 2007 & 2008 Singapore Standard Chartered Marathon and 2008 Sundown Marathon, and I was grateful to him for helping me in the following points

– Running techniques and footwork

– Nutrition

– Time table planning and schedule leading to marathon

Recently, I learned how to play volleyball from Jack at Sentosa and it was a great time at Sentosa, starting off with beach volleyball and fundamentals for playing volleyball. Jack is currently coaching beach volleyball and has a number of students under his pupilage, playing beach volleyball does add on to another of the team sports that I can participate and does not require too many people to form a team and play with.

I had wanted to take photos of the training session and share with my readers, however, I was too engrossed learning beach volleyball and didn’t take my camera out to shoot beach volleyball action ! The beach volleyball was in the morning and in the afternoon, I followed Jack and observed his volleyball training at a secondary school and it brought back memories of long ago when I was training in my team sports and of course army days physical training.

There were lots of discussion on warm up techniques, physical training methods (old, new and combined), warm down/rehabilitative exercise and training techniques specific to volleyball training. Maybe I am a keen sports person, I was able to relate and share on sports science.

Folks, if you are keen to learn beach volleyball or hire a volleyball coach for your team, contact Jack now !

I had “A Day With A Volleyball Coach” too when I was 13.

I tried to persuade my teacher to accept me as the member of Volleyball team of our school that day, But my teacher said I was too short!
