It’s Monday 2nd of January 2023, the start of a brand week in a fresh New Year 2023,. Looking back at Year 2022, it was a mixed bag of an onward journey, results and outcomes, filled with its fair share of ups and downs. As the world economy reopens in 2022, reopening their borders and lifting of risk management measures, it’s a much awaited return that the world desires, the route to recovery was gradual as we return back to a more normal lifestyle.    

Inspired by Fernando GrosHow to choose a Yearly Theme”, this is my 4th year writing and announcing a Yearly Theme, an approach that I personally feel that it’s more forward looking for a new future, a new era of working, thinking and how we connect as an individual, as a collective, society and the world. It’s not that goal settings or setting resolutions are no longer popular or useful, they still have a purpose and it still works for some people or industries

Why “Transform”?

This word “Transform” was chosen for its connection to a 15 years milestone for my TGH Technology and Business website, how can I can change, transform and improve, from my media news coverage, business and technology analysis, social media marketing/digital marketing and as a writer?

15 Years of TGH Technology and Business Portal/Blog

My TGH Technology and Business Portal/Blog is marking and celebrating a 15 years milestone in Year 2023. How has my website and writing transformed over the past 15 years and how am I going to transform my website and writing moving forward? There are probably more questions than answers right now. The answers might appear when I do more in-depth and write more, on both professional and personal basis.

In an upcoming article, I would share more thoughts and feelings behind my 15 years (and still counting) journey, that brought me a lot more than what I could have asked and planned for.

New set of Uncertainties and Dark Clouds in 2023

How can I transform, change and adapt in a year of new set of uncertainties in 2023? What are the uncertainties that world economy might be facing in this year? Could the economic and political situations turn for the worst in 2023? We are facing inflation, higher costs of living, economic slowdown (or even possibly world recession) and geo-political worldwide crisis in a worst worst case scenario.

In a period of uncertainties and political crisis in some regions (hopefully it doesn’t escalate beyond that stage into bigger crisis), there might be new opportunities. Time to explore other opportunities as a new set of dark clouds (challenges and uncertainties) looms over 2023.

World’s First Sexual Wellness Space in the Metaverse

The future of Metaverse is here, the next big thing in how we use modern technology, internet and social media. Metaverse, NFTs, Blockchain in 2022 and beyond – Huobi Research Editorial

The technology, digital and social media world that we are living in, has been constantly evolving, changing and growing. The pace and diversity of various technology platforms, advancements had accelerated in recent years, buzzwords such as cryptocurrency, blockchain and NFTs were the hot topics. In 2022, we are looking into Metaverse, web3.0, future of internet and social media. What are all those all about? How would it change our current and future way of living and working? At a recent Huobi Research Institute webinar held on 26th January 2022, blockchain industry experts debated on Metaverse, NFTs, Blockchain in 2022 and beyond – Huobi Research Editorial.

In Q3 2021, I mentioned about blockchain, crypto and NFT, those new topics of interest that I am entering into. As I was doing more research, reading and learning, the buzzwords Metaverse and Web3.0 became more prominent in January 2022, I am adding them more into my ongoing blockchain, cryptocurrency, NFT fields, part of my Yearly Theme 2022 (Technology, Business and Personal) goals and areas that I am going into.

The editorial commentary by Flora Li, Director of Huobi Research Institute, provided great insights, thoughts and views on metaverse, blockchain, NFTs in 2022 and beyond.

What are the elements that make up the Metaverse?

Co-chairman of the Singapore Blockchain Association Chia Hock Lai views the metaverse as comprising DeFi, NFT, Gamify and Virtual Reality (VR) technology.

Large firms have already signalled their intentions to join the metaverse fray — and in significant ways. Facebook has invested $10 billon on its metaverse division and expects to continue to increase its investment in the coming years. Microsoft’s acquisition of gaming giant Activision, to the tune of $68.7 billion, is also widely viewed as a bid to not only dominate the video games space but also the metaverse.

Big Brands are getting into Metaverse

It’s not just tech firms who have expressed interest in the metaverse — fashion brands Adidas and Prada have partnered for a community-contributed NFT art project in the metaverse; and other similar projects are expected to be announced in the coming year.

Such significant investments into the metaverse will more likely than not accelerate its launch, and its potential for many industries, including entertainment, gaming and social media should not be ignored, said Chia, indicating the blockchain will serve as the metaverse’s economic layer.

The World of NFTs

NFTs, already a significant aspect of the blockchain industry, are expected to occupy an important role in the metaverse, although Senior Financial Analyst and Insights Lead at EmergentX Esme Pau recommended buyers exercise caution if considering NFTs as an investment avenue.

“There’s a major Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) sentiment around NFTs right now,” said Pau.

NFTs are gaining popularity for several reasons, said Flora Li, Director of the Huobi Research Institute and author of the institute’s annual report titled Global Crypto Industry Overview and Trends: 2021–2022.

“NFTs are unique because they satisfy all requirements for digital property rights, facilitating efficiently-run marketplaces,” said Li. “They also fulfill an important social function, that of an enabler for self-expression, creativity and ownership.”

The coming year will likely witness a ‘natural selection’ of sorts in the NFT space, with unsuccessful projects exiting the ecosystem and projects with stronger communities gaining a stronger foothold, said Pau.

“The metaverse will be about technology and communities,” says Pau, adding investments will likely be funneled toward developing technology for metaverse interoperability, enabling players to transfer in-game assets across different metaverses.

“It’s an interesting use case that can also bolster the notion of ownership with regard to NFTs,” stated Pau.

Current IP laws will also be insufficient for the upcoming metaverse and changes to existing laws will likely take place in the coming two years.

“As more deep-pocketed institutions enter, we’ll likely see tussles over IP rights in various jurisdictions. It’s an interesting space to watch,” Pau said.

Personal Thoughts and Views

I am still reading, researching, understanding and analysing on the new fields Metaverse, Web3.0, how all these would change the way we work and live in the coming future. We are not just facing a new future of work, we are also facing a new Future of Internet, Social Media with the new technology platforms and advancements.

How would all these play a part in my NFT journey? Would social media still be relevant in the near future? How many of us would be left behind?

I would definitely be reading, researching, understanding and analysing more on the new fields mentioned here. In my journey of learning, entry into the NFT world as an NFT photographer, I would also be looking at the Metaverse and Web3.0 as well, on how I may enter into the new internet world of the future.

I hope to write and publish more commentaries, information, updates, thoughts and views in Year 2022.

Round Up Jan 2022 and Short Break for CNY 2022 (Technology and Business)

Today is 31st January 2022, last day of January 2022, this is also the eve of Chinese New Year (CNY) 2022, a time for reunion dinner and family gathering. I would like to take this time to do a quick round up Jan 2022 before taking a short break (from Monday 31st January to Sunday 6th February) for CNY 2022 for my technology and business segments.

The month of January always seem to be hectic since it’s a short turnaround time from Christmas weekend to New Year weekend, followed by 4 more weeks to Chinese New Year festive holiday. It takes a while to get up to speed while there were ongoing adjustments, adapting and settling into new gig/role, on top of getting my business back on track.

Technology writing / media news coverage

A regular segment on my website since the founding of my technology and business website. I started off with consumer technology (B2C) market, and I expanded into enterprise / business technology (B2B) market some years back.

This sector can be pretty taxing at times, depending on the frequency and number of press releases received in a week. That’s a good and bad headache to have.

Social Media Marketing / Digital Agency

As part of my business diversification and integration with my photography business, as well as my technology writing segment, I am in the midst of building up and developing my social media marketing / digital agency business portfolio.

I previously mentioned about a social media marketing gig, I am transiting and settling into this new role. In this year 2022, I hope to expand this segment further, getting one to two more accounts under my charge.

Crypto / Blockchain / NFT

Crypto and Blockchain are the next two technology sectors that I would be covering, not just because it’s linked to my NFT photography plans. I see potential in the cryptocurrency world, their use case scenarios in a digital world and as an alternative investment tool. There are a number of discussions on crypto and blockchain  industries, both pros and cons.

This is an area that I am keen in, still learning and exploring. There are quite a lot of discussions on the NFT field, both pros and cons, and how it can be part of my diversification for my photography. I am reading both sides of the NFT equation, I believe in its potential and future prospects. I would be doing more research before embarking on this platform and share more updates on my NFT photography journey along the way.

Short Break for CNY 2022

I am planning to take a short break for CNY 2022 from my technology and business media news coverage, content creation and writing. There would definitely be some more backlogs piling up. Do also check out my Round Up Jan 2022 for my (Photography and Travel) segment too!

While I am not publishing media news and content creation for a week, that does not mean I am totally not working. I would be working on my photography and videography areas.

Theme for Year 2022 (Technology, Business and Personal) – Onward

Onward – What is the reason behind this theme?

Why “Onward”? This is actually my alma mater school motto. Let me introduce my alma mater, Gan Eng Seng School (founded in 1885), I am also an old boy from the Gan Eng Seng Dragon Scout Group (founded in 1922) where I spent some of my best and fun years learning Scouting skills, knowledge, in the the great outdoors, life skills and camaraderie.

Dragon Scout Group (DSG) is celebrating its centenary milestone in Year 2022, this is no mean feat! The DSG extended family is going to celebrate DSG100 Years in Scouting!

Onward – Strive forward as we work our way out from this ongoing global pandemic mess, it’s not just an economic and financial crisis, the world is facing other crisis in the areas of healthcare, mental health, emotional health, psychological and sociological issues.

The whole world is trying its best to move forward, with setbacks and hiccups that are going to be a common sight for this year 2022. Hopefully, our lessons learnt in Year 2020 and 2021 would come in handy for us as the world move Onward in the journey to recovery. Let’s hope the world can really start to see the true light at the end of the tunnel.

Goals and Plans

This is not the usual way of doing goal settings that you would normally learn or see in your job/training. What I am doing is a bit of a hybrid format sharing of my goals and plans for my technology, business and personal segments.

I have been covering consumer technology sector since the launch of this website. It is stable and well-established, covering about 70% of my total news coverage here. I would take this year to review where I can change and improve in the areas of consumer technology news coverage, gadget reviews etc.

Enterprise Technology

A small segment that is slowly growing and expanding. Enterprise technology/B2B technology is not the easiest to cover and write about this segment.

Business

Media Relations

My media relations and networks with pr agencies have expanded out of Singapore, reaching the shores of Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia. I would continue to build new media relations and networks whenever possible.

As for my existing media relations and networks, I am thankful and grateful for the working relationships and engagements over the years with brands, organisations and pr agencies. Let’s continue to work closer together in this Year 2022.

During Q4 2021, I mentioned about cryptocurrency and NFT on this website. Approaching and entering from a technology news coverage and business opportunities perspective, I am threading with caution and optimism in these two areas for this year.

These 2 sectors cryptocurrency and NFT would be interesting and exciting yet cautious at the same time for me in this Year 2022.

Photography Business

The past 2 years, 2020 and 2021, our life and work has been severely disrupted due to the global pandemic that is still ongoing. For those who run a small business like myself, the past 2 years had been very difficult and tough, mentally and emotionally exhausting.

Year 2022 is not going to be smooth sailing, let’s hope the whole world can get themselves together to navigate our way out from this global pandemic situation.

Personal

I may be tweeting/sharing a lot of thoughts on Twitter, some of them are transferred over to Instagram. However, you don’t see me sharing a lot on Facebook. As compared to some of my friends, I might be sharing a lot more, while versus to another group of friends who who share a lot of their personal and family photos, I am very quiet and private on my personal Facebook.

You are not going to see too many photographs of a personal basis on Facebook or Instagram. I am exercising more privacy on sharing personal photos, social media in recent years has been mentally draining at times.

Yes, I tweet a lot a.k.a. “speak a lot” on Twitter. Some of them are my thoughts, views and feelings ranging from business, issues that I am concerned with, as well as key opinions, thought leadership. They are different from sharing what other people do, share their lifestyle, what they ate, where they went to … etc etc on social media.

Last but not least – Onward in Year 2022

Last but not least – Onward in Year 2022. After some harsh lessons from Year 2021, I decided to be cautious, not fearful, be brave, Be Prepared, ready to take on more challenges, hiccups and changes as I trek my way Onward in Year 2022.

I really hope this Year 2022 would truly be the year where we can see some light at the end of the tunnel.
