ROG announced Zephyrus M16 (GU603) laptop

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) recently announced the ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603) laptop for content creators and gamers in Singapore. This is the first ROG laptop that fits an immersive 16-inch display and a powerful new Intel processor inside an ultra-slim 15-inch chassis. The ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603) laptop is truly portable, powered by new 11th Gen Core™ i7-11800H processor and NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ Laptop 3070 GPU, with a smooth and accurate display along with studio quality audio for creators.

Smooth and Accurate Visuals for Creators and Gamers

The ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603) has a streamlined design that fits a 16-inch display into a slim chassis that is 5% smaller than last year’s 15-inch ROG Zephyrus M15. Their ultra-narrow bezels measure only 4.6mm on all four sides, thanks to a redesigned display cable that allows the bottom bezel to be as slim as the others. This ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603) has a design that delivers an immersive 94% screen-to-body ratio.

This panel has a 165Hz refresh rate and WQHD (2560×1600) resolution that combines fluidity and detail, with a 3ms response time that keeps animation sharp. Along with Adapative-Sync, this eliminates screen tearing and makes video editing and gaming even more smoother by synchronising the refresh rate with the GPU’s frame rate.

The display is factory calibrated and Pantone validated to ensure accurate colours out of the box. There is also a full coverage of the cinema-grade DCI-P3 offering a vibrant colour palette, while 500 nits of brightness delivers a vivid picture even in the outdoors.

Powered by Dolby Vision, this can dynamically adjusts visuals to make images richer and brighter. For content creators, they can film and edit their videos and streams in a format commonly used by industry professionals.

With a taller 16:10 aspect ratio, this offers additional space for menus, ribbons, and toolbars. This would allow users to fit more onto the screen, enhancing web browsing and content creation, opening up more space for in-game heads-up display.

Powerful New Intel Processor

Powered by new 11th Gen Core™ i7-11800H processor, the top configuration clocks up to 4.6GHz, delivering awesome performance. With eight cores and sixteen threads, the ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603) is fully equipped for creative projects, video rendering and game streaming. It also has an advanced system design that allows the CPU to run on up to 45W of sustained power when the GPU is active and 80W when it is on its own.

With 16GB of DDR4-3200 RAM, they are able to provide sufficient headroom for multi-tasking and projects with high-resolution assets. Along with a PCle 4.0 SSD with 1TB of storage capacity, they can load assets at high speed while a second SSD slot makes it easy to add storage for larger game libraries and professional portfolios.

The GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU powers the ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603) with outsized content creation and gaming performance in a slim machine. It has an efficient cooling system that allows the GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU to clock up to 1390MHz at 80W with ROG Boost. Using Dynamic Boost, it is able to divert an extra 20W of power when CPU loads are lighter, unlocking even more performance.

The GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU is based on the cutting-edge Ampere architecture. It combines new streaming multiprocessors with 2nd gen RT cores and 3rd gen Tensor cores to enable the most realistic ray-traced graphics and advanced AI features. These improvements enable lifelike visuals while pushing frame rates to new heights. They’re backed by support for NVIDIA Reflex technologies that lower latency in select multiplayer games and NVIDIA Broadcast effects that add instant polish to live streams.

There is a full suite of ROG Intelligent Cooling technologies that allow high performance, quiet acoustics, and cool temperatures to come together in a slim and light chassis. There is an exotic liquid metal thermal compound, applied with ROG’s patented process, reduces CPU temperatures up to 10 degrees Celsius, compared to traditional thermal paste. With six heat pipes, they are able to transfer heat away from the CPU and GPU to dense heatsinks in the flanks, where it’s pushed out by airflow from dual Arc Flow fans.

This new fan design has 84 carefully tapered blades with a special aerodynamic wave pattern on the outer edge that reduces turbulence, enabling more airflow with less noise. With 0dB Technology, the fans turn off completely for silent operation when temperatures dip below 50°C. When the fans are spinning, the updated self-cleaning design diverts dust away from critical cooling components to improve long-term performance and stability.

ROG offers multiple modes tuned for different situations whereby the cooling requirements change based on the task. Silent mode reduces speed slightly to keep acoustics low, making it ideal for everyday tasks. Performance mode provides the horsepower required to push high frame rates in games without excessive noise. Turbo mode takes the CPU up to full power with a louder fan profile.

With Scenario Profiles, users can switch between operating modes manually with a quick keyboard shortcut or automatically. This is available through the ROG Armoury Crate utility, Scenario Profiles let users associate individual games and apps with specific operating modes, lighting effects, and other system settings. Profiles are activated by the foreground application, providing seamless transitions between preferences for different tasks.

True Portability

At just 19.9mm thin and weighing only 1.9kg, this ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603) offers true portability, making it easy to carry under your arm or slip into a backpack. The capacious 90Wh battery offers up to 10 hours of video playback, with fast charging technology allowing it to replenish to 50% in only 30 minutes. And Type-C charging capabilities adds further flexibility. While the full-sized adapter is required for maximum performance, the laptop can handle everyday work running off a smaller Type-C adapter or even a portable USB power pack.

With its Off Black colour giving it a neutral look and fashion-forward detailing that complements that tone with the right amount of personality, the ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603) exhibits professionalism and attention to detail in any setting. Powered by 8279 CNC-milled perforations in the lid, this offere glimpses of the shimmering Prismatic Film beneath. It has fingerprint-resistant finishes across the magnesium-aluminium chassis that helps the laptop look clean and fresh even after a day of use. The soft-touch paint keeps the palm rest cool and comfortable under the user’s hands.

They also have an updated 180 degrees ErgoLift hinge, this offers new possibilities to the users. This hinge raises the rear of the laptop the lid opens, which places the keyboard at a more comfortable typing angle, gives the cooling vents more room to draw in air, and lets the downward-facing speakers deliver more volume. The hinge can rotate back until the ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603) sits flat, so creators can position the screen at the optimal angle.

Studio-quality Audio for Creators and Gamers

The ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603) has six-speaker system with Dolby Atmos brings games, movies, and music to life. Two tweeters team up with dual force-canceling woofers to produce crisp highs and clear bass. Each woofer comprises two speakers that are slightly offset to cancel each other’s vibrations, reducing unwanted resonance.

The 3D mic array offers recording modes optimised for different scenarios. Cardioid mode captures audio sources immediately in front of the laptop, making the user’s voice loud and clear for streaming and chat. Omnidirectional mode picks up sound from the entire room, making it possible to draw an entire group into a call. Blending the two in stereo mode opens up rich recording opportunities for music creation.

To improve voice chat and sound record for audio creators, advanced Two-Way AI Noise Cancelation removes unwanted sounds from both input and output audio. It can be applied to any device and even customised on a per-app basis, so users can limit noise-canceling to chat apps without affecting in-game sounds. Gamers can communicate better with teammates, creators can record cleaner audio in any environment, and everyone can enjoy clear conversation. Since the Two-Way AI Noise Cancelation runs on the CPU, the GPU is free to focus on maximising frame rates.

Comprehensive Connectivity

Having flexible inputs pave the way for creative projects, everyday computing and gaming. With the Thunderbolt 4 port, it drives two 4K displays at 60Hz or a single 8K monitor, and it offers lightning-quick access to media and other data on external drives. Users can charge the laptop and other devices through this port, too, including Type-C USB gear.

There are also separate Type-C port and a pair of Type-A USB ports providing ample room for other creator devices, gaming peripherals and more. With WiFi 6 technology, this allow users to take advantage of faster wireless networks, while the Ethernet jack enables a pristine connection for serious multi-player gaming. The microSD card reader makes it easy to access media from cameras and other devices.

The ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603) has a Stealth Type keyboard, a desktop-style layout that feels familiar and typing noise stays under 30dB. This would allow users to work and play without disturbing anyone nearby. ROG has increased the size of the touchpad by 20% as compared to the last generation, and with faster processing, this delivers greater accuracy for an improved tracking experience.

An integrated webcam and fingerprint sensor offer convenient tools for logging in and staying in touch. Traditional cameras use either 2DNR technology that analyses individual frames to correct noise, or 3DNR technology that analyses frames in sequence to improve fidelity with moving objects. The ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603) blends 2DNR and 3DNR technology to ensure users look their best in any situation, even in low-light environments. The fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button offers an especially seamless Windows Hello experience. It briefly caches the user’s fingerprint when they turn on the laptop and then automatically logs in with the correct account.

ROG x EstelleFly

In conjunction with the launch of the ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603) which designed with creators in mind, Republic of Gamers (ROG) collaborates with local singer EstelleFly to release a new song – Rise Up.

“When I started writing the track, the slogan for ROG which is ‘Rise Up, Join the Republic’ was the main catalyst for me. I wanted the track to emulate and bring an energy, where anyone who listen to it would feel like they are brave to rise up against adversity, which is what ROG represents. Bringing together a community of gamers who dare to challenge the norm and constantly push beyond the limits being placed upon them. It’s an absolute honor being able to be a part of this and it’s been a dream working with the Republic Of Gamers.” – EstelleFly.

This collaboration marks ROG’s commitment in celebrating local content creations as part of the creator’s academy initiative.

ROG announced new Zephyrus G14 Alan Walker Special Edition

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) recently announced the new Zephyrus G14 Alan Walker Special Edition (GA401QEC) laptop, created in collaboration with the legendary artist, DJ and music producer. With unique styling and a custom ROG Remix sampler, this machine is ready for any creative endeavour.

Technology Meets Musicality

A laptop not to be missed for the creators and gamers, not just powerful in technical specifications, the design, finishing and personalisation by Alan Walker himself. Combining technology, creativity and artistic talents together, giving rise to this ROG special edition laptop.

Alan Walker when he was young, developed an interest in computers, programming and graphic design, all these eventually led him to a prominent career in electronic music. He was a self-taught producer, where he began his career, releasing tracks on YouTube and SoundCloud, rising to fame with his 2015 song Faded. Alan Walker has billions of streams on his YouTube and Spotify, he is now an acclaimed artist with a hand in the gaming industry, having produced tracks for PUBG Mobile and Death Stranding. With all the above accolades, combined with his unique sense of style, making him a perfect fit for the values that ROG pursue.

Never Miss A Beat

When ROG first forged a partnership with Alan Walker, one laptop stood out among the field as the perfect do-anything companion for a self-made creator and gamer. The ROG Zephyrus G14 AW SE blends best-in-class portability with the potent performance of an 8-core, 16-thread AMD® Ryzen 9 5900HS CPU and the NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 3050 Ti GPU.

For Walker — or those who aspire to follow in his footsteps — it is the ultimate tool for gamers and creators on the go who want to be able to switch gears at the drop of a beat.

Alan Walker Customised Design Accents

This ROG Zephyrus G14 Alan Walker Special Edition is designed in collaboration with Alan Walker, featuring unique colour accents, like the Spectre Blue shade of the AniMe Matrix™ LED array, exclusive to this machine. The nameplate sports a similar tone, along with Walker’s idea to include his own signature next to the ROG logo. This nameplate is manufactured with a physical vapor deposition process for an enticing reflectivity that changes from different angles. Two fabric belts along the lid add ROG’s signature cyberpunk flair, with one belt using reflective text that blends with the matrix LEDs.

“I feel very proud for having the chance to work with ROG and I’m excited to show the world what we’ve been working on for so long,” said Walker.

The experience begins the moment the user lays their fingers on the container, thanks to a stunning design and acrylic top cover, all selected by Walker himself. The box — Walker’s favourite part of the project — is far more than mere packaging: it’s a creative accessory all its own. Connect the box to the G14 with a USB Type-C® cable and it turns into the ROG Remix sampler, with conductive pads on the surface that allow users to trigger 18 of Walker’s own sound effects. Users can start with one of Walker’s genre-defining tracks or import their own tunes into the custom software, developed with Walker and his team. ROG Remix also displays unique ROG and Alan Walker inspired animations on the main screen of the laptop and AniMe Matrix panel based on the MIDI inputs selected.

The laptop even features a custom boot animation and Alan Walker wallpaper. The glass touchpad is shaded with a customised pattern inspired by a music equaliser, alongside keycaps matching Alan Walker’s signature colours—plus A and W keys with the producer’s logo printed on top. To cap it all off, an Alan Walker and ROG-styled baseball cap and pair of socks also come bundled with a special edition of the ROG Sleeve so owners can represent the Republic anywhere.

IDC & ASUS Webcast 2021 Singapore – Digital Transformation for the Next Normal in Asia Pacific

The world is now entering into a new future of work, how would the hybrid working environment look like in the near future, in a post COVID-19 world? ASUS commissioned an independent survey conducted by leading technology research firm, IDC. At the IDC & ASUS Webcast 2021 Singapore – Digital Transformation for the Next Normal in Asia Pacific, ASUS revealed that 45% of Singapore SMBs are likely to convert to a 100% laptop setup post COVID-19, underscoring the importance of mobility in a hybrid workplace model. This finding, among other interesting strategic insights to SMB technology use and how COVID-19 has affected related decisions.

How would the future of work be like for you and for your industry? Whether we like or not, we are moving into a hybrid working environment in a post COVID-19 world, the new future of work is here and upon us. I have been following on the future of work developments as the impacts and changes when COVID-19 started sweeping changes and economic impacts to the world economy and how we operate our business. From chatting with my friends from different industries, the changes and transformations varies.

The findings from this ASUS commissioned independent survey are interesting, provides an insights into the current situation and the pace we are moving into a new future of work as the world is going through a digital transformation for the next normal in Asia Pacific. Here are some summarised findings from the survey.

Survey Methodology

The “IDC Asia/Pacific Laptops and Workspace Trends Survey 2020” was conducted in mid-2020 in 10 countries across Asia Pacific, including Singapore. The survey sought to discover the challenges of remote working and the impact on SMBs’ provisioning of laptops and other work devices and involved 2,018 respondents across Asia Pacific, split equally between employers (IT decision makers) and employees who use laptops for work.

Asia Pacific SMBs Not Ready for Long-Term Remote Working Arrangements

At the Asia Pacific level, the survey reveals that businesses are not attuned to the “work-anywhere” trend brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. On average, only 28% of business owners in Asia Pacific expect employees to continue working remotely post COVID-19, with almost 40% anticipating a return to office. This short-term focus highlights the challenges that remote working entails – particularly around security, operational, collaboration / /communication, and productivity issues. But this also means that businesses are not supporting their employees fully with the right devices for a prolonged work from home (WFH). IDC stated that this short-term orientation will have a significant impact on the devices that are being purchased now and in future, with a profound, negative effect on employee productivity

Key Singapore Findings

For Singapore in particular, the survey found that only about half of SMBs (48%) were ready for WFH arrangements brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, over a third (35%) of those SMBs said that they were not completely prepared with the office equipment and software to enable remote working and that 50% of employers expect their workforce to return to the office once the situation is resolved as opposed to the Asia Pacific average of 46%. This revealed a general lack of long-term planning for remote working by Singapore SMBs.

However, 45% of Singapore SMBs (the highest in Asia/Pacific) are likely to move to a 100% laptop setup post COVID-19 and 61% plan to increase their laptop investments by 2022; indicating that this attitude is changing rapidly to cope with the situation better.

Other key Singapore SMB findings from the survey include:

  • 62% of employees stated that businesses that offer advanced equipment and flexible working arrangements have a competitive edge over other companies
  • 54% of businesses only refresh laptops when the staff complain that they are slow, and another 46% only do so when they are broken, whenever budget allows

IDC Advice

Considering the survey findings, IDC advised that equipping employees with the latest devices that can support both a remote and hybrid work environment will have a significant impact not only on employee productivity and experience, but also will provide a competitive edge to organizations to attract and retain talent. IDC also suggested that Singapore SMBs implement the following three points with regard to technology implementation:

  1. Include laptops in as-a-service agreements – Give employees their choice in devices and move away from inflexible standardization policies. An as-a-service model can also provide easy access to features previously found only in enterprise-grade, custom-developed devices.
  2. Ensure employees have the right tools to do their job – Doing away with a one-size fits-all strategy and adopting a more personalized approach to computing by offering employees the laptop of their choice, or based on computing needs, will help improve productivity and efficiency.
  3. Refresh laptops faster for better employee experience – Shorten refresh cycles of laptops to keep in step with workforce requirements, as well as boost employee productivity and efficiency.

Personal Thoughts and Views

As we enter into a hybrid working environment, working between both office and home, a laptop setup makes more sense, portable and ease of use when you have to shuffle between work locations. The changes and transformations to a laptop setup might have already started for your organisation and for yourself. If haven’t started, the digital transformation for the next normal would probably be taking place very soon.
