Another Year Older (Again) in 2018

Entering into the 10th day of the month of January, it’s the time again for me, to add another digit to an existing number, another year older (again) in the year 2018.

As I aged, matured and mellowed over the decades, birthday is a quiet affair, sometimes alone, sometimes with friends, no fanciful meals, no glamourous photos shared on social media platforms, group photos of birthday gatherings were like a thing of the past since 5 to 10 years back? I don’t even know to be honest, sometimes, the pace of life and changes were so fast and furious that we lost track of our time.

Today, as I grow a year older (again) in 2018, I had a great lunch treat by my primary school friend Wendy, over a hot bowl of Hakata Ikkousha Tonkotsu Ramen, thereafter, we had kopi-o at Ya-Kun. Chatting with old friends is priceless as we aged into the middle stages of our life.

Since my birthdays are usually quiet and low key, I don’t usually get birthday gifts, however, today I received a gift it’s all about Singapore, Heritage, History and Culture. This special package is also a Christmas gift 2017, New Year 2018 gift, a 3-in-1 gift package!

No matter what type of gift it is, I really appreciate this gift from the social media folks, Faiz, Shaun and Nicholas. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart!

I set a goal that I wanted to get a book on my birthday today. I wanted to buy a particular book today since it’s a milestone day for me. I went to Kinokuniya Bugis and it was out of stock, I was determined to buy it today and I went Kinokuniya Orchard and I managed to buy it!

A new book – The little book of Ikigai : The essential Japanese way to finding your purpose in life. This is going to be a significant moment, one of my goals for year 2018, finding my purpose, finding my direction, seeking a balance in the force, on this day on my birthday in 2018, through this little book of Ikigai.

Adding another year (again) in 2018, I am thankful, grateful, humbled and blessed, for everything that I have in life at this juncture in time. It’s not perfect, it’s not that bad either.

Thank you to all my family, relatives and friends that stood by me, encouraged, supported me, lifted me up and pushed me from behind as I strive towards my goals.

To some of “you people”, you know who you are, I am leaving you behind and away from my life forever if I am able to.

Going to work even harder, smarter and more strategically in the year 2018! Onward!

Singtel launched an integrated multimedia campaign to inspire Singaporeans

National Day 2017 is just round the corner, it’s arriving soon, 9th August 2017. The celebrations are starting to get into full swing, building up towards National Day 2017, when we celebrate Singapore’s 52nd birthday.

In conjunction with National Day celebrations, Singtel launched an integrated multimedia campaign to inspire Singaporeans to continue and keep up the Singaporean spirit, the Majulah spirit to unite and propel Singaporeans together towards being bigger and better.

What is this integrated campaign all about? Let me share the news and information:

This is going to be a month long campaign, paying tribute to Singaporeans from all walks of life, who have, in their own ways, contributed to the making of the nation. It features Singaporeans from different backgrounds coming together as one nation to seize opportunities, overcome challenges and keep on striving.

“National Day is a celebration of our progress as one people every 9 August when Singaporeans fill up with national pride and patriotism,” says Ms Lian Pek, Vice President of Group Strategic Communications and Brand. “But often times, the spirit of National Day tends to fizzle out shortly after. We hope our campaign will serve as an awareness ribbon of sorts to gently remind ourselves to keep flying the Singapore flag even after the birthday party.”

Jointly developed with BBH, the Singtel campaign will roll out 12 print ads in the run up to 9 August, featuring portraits of Singaporeans and their aspirations on banners and posters at bus stops across the island and on social media. Well-known photographer and instagrammer Chia Aik Beng was enlisted to capture a representative spectrum of society and their different hopes for the country. A customized National Day frame ( will be made available on Facebook for users to download and partake in the celebratory greetings. Singtel will also release a video, dedicated to Singaporeans’ go-getting spirit.

Powering On Sports

The second part of this month-long campaign will feature Singapore’s athletes heading to the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur from August 19 to 30 in their quest for sporting glory for the nation.

“There’s nothing like having our athletes represent Singapore at regional or international sporting meets to bring Singaporeans together,” says Ms Pek. “We see the Games as a natural extension of our National Day campaign as ultimately, it’s a very tangible reminder that we all have to raise our game to keep Singapore ahead of the pack.”

Supporting Team Singapore at the upcoming SEA Games is part of Singtel’s ongoing partnership with the Singapore National Olympic Council to develop the local sporting scene. Under this recently renewed partnership that started as far back as 2012, Singtel will help fund the training of the nation’s athletes to promote and develop sports in Singapore.

The ‘Power On’ campaign will feature six partner athletes in content that aims to promote a sporting culture and inspire Singaporeans during major athletic events. They are: Joseph Schooling (Swimming), Loh Zhi (Water Polo), Mark Leong (Water Ski), Nur Alfian (Silat), Shanti Pereira (Track and Field) and Shayna Ng (Bowling).

I personally know Aik Beng and I am looking forward to view his wonderful and powerful photographs that he would be sharing for this integrated campaign by Singtel.

Counting down to Singapore’s 52nd birthday party celebration on 9th August 2017. Let’s also continue and keep up the Majulah spirit!

Entering into the 40s band

The time now is 10:01 am or 10:01pm on the 10th January – 10/01.

Today marks the day, whereby I officially enter into the 40 age band. The last time I entered into a new age band was 10 years ago, entering the 30-39 age band. The thoughts and feelings were so different from then 30 years old and now 40 years old. I had mellowed down over the past 10 years, slowly getting myself away from nonsense and rubbish on the social media platforms.

There were times when you can see and feel, that you are getting older, just by looking at the people around you. My nephews and nieces have all grown bigger and older, my friends children had grown and some of them had more children in their family.

Entering into the 40s age band is like the new era of 30s, there are still many opportunities and great things to achieve ahead for me. Although I would not be as fast and energised like when I had the health and body energy of a 30 year old.

Age is truly a number, no doubt about that and you cannot run away from it! While I can never run away from getting old, my heart, mind and soul can still be forever young with a higher and increased level of maturity, thinking, experience from the life journeys. While I may not run as fast as before, I am still learning and growing, exploring and setting new goals and objectives. A person’s life learning journey must always be ongoing, no matter how big or small the lessons are.

Oh yes, in Singapore, when we reach 40 years old, we are automatically enrolled into this health insurance program known as ElderShield, you can read up more about this program here. I have a feeling my younger friends are going to give me the short end of the stick again for getting inside this program. Alright, this is also a huge and constant reminder to take good care of my health, keep and stay fit, exercise more!

While I am having mixed feelings of hitting the 40s, I am excited of the new journeys and adventures ahead that I embarked upon at the start of the year 2017.

Oh yes, welcome to the 40s club!

Another year older (again)

The time of the year when everybody is busy adjusting back to working routine after a Christmas and New Year holiday break, while preparing for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations, is the period when I am another year older again. I am very grateful and blessed to receive birthday well wishes and greetings on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, FB Messenger, from my family, relatives and friends. While there wasn’t much of a celebration, I had a quiet day, resting and listening/discussing photography.

Looking ahead of this year 2015, it’s going to be an even more challenging year (in my personal humble opinion) than previous 1-2 years for the economy. Running and helping out in the family business is going to be challenging for year 2015 and I hope to rise up to the occasion!

Photography is still a personal thing for me, doing it on a semi-professional/freelance basis when the time and job fits. I am looking at my personal photography projects for 2015 and you can read more about it here on my photojournalist site!

Sometimes in life, the more we search and seek, the more it will not appear. When we search and seek less, it appears to you. How will year 2015 turns out?

Last but not least, I want to thank everybody for their birthday well wishes, really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart that family, relatives and friends remembered me adding another digit to my lifespan 🙂

Singapore’s 44th NDP Celebrations – An Ultimate Experience !

Singapore’s 44th National Day Birthday Celebrations had just been completed on the 9th August 2009, I didn’t get to watch the National Day Parade and Celebrations LIVE on television, I was with the crowds camping outside Esplanade, Esplanade Bridge, Marina Square, One Fullerton and I positioned myself in between One Fullerton and Clifford Pier Hotel to capture the NDP 09 fireworks, check out my story here on my photoblog !

I thoroughly enjoyed the fireworks and luckily, I attend the NDP 2009 Preview and the Parade was really an ultimate experience for me, check out my Journey Through NDP 09 Preview ! Having followed National Day Parades and involved in National Day Parades before, this is really special for me and many Singaporeans and friends from all over the world too.

The 44th National Day Parade and Celebrations united us again together in this tough period of economic crisis and flu outbreak, counting our blessings and embracing our growth, success and not forgetting fellow Singaporeans who were less well off, making a presence in the international community. To be grateful and count our blessings, safety and peace.

How was Singapore’s 44th National Day Parade Celebrations different, unique or special ?

– Engaging the Heartlanders – It’s a very period for all and the themes and performances touched all the hearts

– Social Media Networking ~ A very powerful set of tools, platforms and services that the current and especially the younger generations can relate to. If anybody doubt the power of social media networking, look at how NDP 2009 engaged and prepared for the Grand Finale with Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube.

– Engaging Bloggers ~ Mr Brown did an awesome job with his coverage of the NDP 2009 and don’t we love all his antics and adventures during NDP 2009 rehearsals and preparations ! Mr Brown showed all Singaporeans the background scenes that got the Parade and Celebrations going, people who worked very hard behind the scenes to make the Parade and Celebrations a success !

– Having NDP Roadshows at different areas of Singapore, great Publicity and Marketing.

– The Pledge Moment at 8:22pm ~ A great initiative to remind us of who we are, where we are and to count our blessings.

– The Celebrations ~ Using different Chapters to showcase the history and growth of Singapore, if you were inside any of the rehearsals or the Grand Finale Parade itself, you would definitely be able to relate how different, unique and special, lots of singing, dancing, celebrating from all walks of life!

– Pole Dancing ~ Interesting topic of discussion by Singaporeans, both the pros and cons. By having 2 schools of thoughts, it does give NDP 09 another unique and interesting experience and adventure !!!

– Theme Song ~ A rock theme song “What Do You See” by Electrico, never imagined before by many people to be even allowed for National Day Parade Theme Song, I sincerely believed they brought out a lot of us in the song, evoking emotions and thoughts on being Singaporean. Well done on the Theme Song !!!

– Creative Direction ~ Check out Mr Brown’s post, his video recording on YouTube with Ivan Heng, the Creative Director on the creative direction of NDP 2009 and the story behind NDP 09 Creative Direction shall come to light !!

– Fireworks ~ Something that I always looked forward to !
